My Fiance is hispanic (Mexican), and so he has two last names. The first is his father’s surname and the second is his mother’s. He is usually referred to by his first last name for ease.
However, I don’t particularly care for his first (paternal) last name. It is very long and very difficult to pronounce for most Americans. I really like his second (maternal) last name. It fits well with my first name.
When we get married, is there any legal reasoning why I could not take his second last name only? Or do I have to take both or none? Anyone know the legal implications?
