@jwdesiree:  I also keep a list of things that people casually mention they want over the year. Since you bought 2 things off of your list does that mean you have more on that list that you could buy for him instead as Christmas presents?

I got my Darling Husband the Bowflex adjustable dumbbells this year.  He mentioned wanting them several times this year but I told him they’d be too expensive. I caught a great deal though on Cyber Monday! They’re at my parents’ house now waiting for Christmas.

Good luck finding something for your FI!

Not knowing anything about him, I can’t really say, but I’m the same. I tend to buy a few little gifts and one bigger one for fiance, and I’ll usually keep track through the year and buy all my gifts, rather than all at once. This year the bigger gift is a creme brulee kit (he loves cooking), and the smaller ones are some books he likes and a new wallet.

Last year, he got a telescope (he’s a bit of an astronomy buff), and some DVDs. Haha, I can’t remember any further back than that, though!

@jwdesiree:  I understood that, I guess I didn’t say it well. When I said “your list” I mean “your list for him“.

Maybe I didn’t understand the original post. I understood that you bought 2 things for him from a list that you’d been keeping of things that he’d been asking for/casually mentioning as a want/need. Then he bought those same 2 things himself. If this is the case, can you return the 2 things you already bought him and choose 2 other things from the list you’ve been keeping?
