That’s exciting. I hope you have an amazing trip. I’m sorry I’ve never been there so I can’t offer any advice.

@imanw:  Very fun! I am thinking about staying there before jumpin on a cruise. My Puerto Rican coworker just suggested this place: http://www.laconcharesort.com which is in Condado located near a lot of shops and restaurants. Not too far from the airport either. Another suggestions she made was going to stay on the island of Vieques and staying at this beauty http://www.starwoodhotels.com/whotels/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=3170 this would require taking a cab, renting a car {scarrry drivers} or hopping on a small charter plane though.

La concha is so wonderful and in a perfect location, a short cab ride to Saun Juan and centered on a wonderful strip. Honestly we bearly left the hotel facilities while we where there! The beach is stunning and all the resturants are soo good! I have a few photo of the beach area, I wish I had more of the actual hotel..it is stunning.

On our Honeymoon we stayed at the Caribe Hilton…

PHOTO – View from our room onto the Condado Lagoon… and across to the Conrad San Juan at Condado Plaza (Condado is actually the name of a Neighbourhood in SJ, so you may come across other Hotels that use this as part of their name as well).  Below us is the Forin de San Geronimo de Boqueron (1791) a National Historic Site and is accessible via the Hilton property.

The Caribe Hilton is a truly famous Hotel in the Hilton Brand… as it was the first resort built by Hilton outside of the Continental USA (circa 1949).  The many buildings at this resort have been built in the last ensuing 60+ years.

The location (not far from the Airport, Port, or Old San Juan) is great… and the peninsula it sits upon stunning geographically… jutting out into the ocean.  The resort thereby having a lot of land with pools, paths, bars, sunbathing areas, and BONUS a Beach all to itself.

Some of the buildings do appear older than others… for example, we were in “the Tower” and I have a feeling that this building was probably built in the 1960s… but then like a great deal of things in the Caribbean, I could be wrong / deceived, just due to how things are constructed (concrete or concrete block to withstand hurricanes).

Despite the building having an “older vibe” the furnishings were quite nice (very comfy bed & linens), modern bath etc.  Infact I’d say that maintenance at the Hotel was excellent, and everything looked quite sleek and modern.

I wouldn’t hesitate to go back there.

NOTE – Accommodations in San Juan are expensive no matter where you stay.  So be ready for the sticker price shock.  As we are Hilton Honour Members, we were able to take advantage of some banked points which mean we weren’t faced with the full pricing for our 2 night stay (Regular Pricing = $ 350 and up per night for a standard room !!)

Hope this helps,

PS… No matter WHERE you stay on your Honeymoon… be sure and tell EVERYONE that it is your Honeymoon… because that is one of the best ways to get Perks & Freebies… like Room Upgrades – FREE Breakie, Cocktails, Souveniers etc.

You will also want to make sure that if you choose to stay at a Brand Name Hotel that you join their Loyalty Program BEFORE you make your Reservations, as often times Members get the best rates / rooms available (be sure and show your card when you check in).

Happy honeymooning !!
