I think the chair covers would be okay if the table linen was just plain white. I also think the centre vase is too tall in proportion to everything else.. and if you can get clear glass not the blue tint you seem to have then I think it would look quite nice. I wouldn’t call it 80’s at all, and I doubt he could do much better if he tried to decorate the table!!

I am so so so so sorry to say this. But I do agree with your Fiance. Everything together just looks… Awful? I am honestly sorry. I am ONLY saying this bc you asked, and I just want to be helpful, and for you both to see that he is not the only one seeing what he sees.
I am not good at this either, if that is comforting in any way. Or at least justifies my harsh comment. So I don’t have any better solutions to this, if you are not changing the look completely?
Is this the look you were going for?
If so, you need to try harder. Sorry ❤️ 🙁

I wouldnt definitly use the word tacky either- but I do agree with afew others and i think the colours clash a little in the picture. I would lose the chair covers- the chairs arent honestly that bad.
Is that vase the vase you are using on the table? How tall is the vase, because it may be a little too tall for the table.
I wouldnt worry though about sequin tablecloths because they can be made very elegant and nice in a wedding venue- if you use sequin with other fabrics and satin though- it tends to take away from their uniqueness and elegantness.
I used sequin tablecloths at my wedding and everyone loved them! I would say use the chairs you have and keep the sequin table cloths and see how tall your vases are! Im sure it will turn out amazing!
I did sequin table cloths for the head table and candy table and then pink satin covers for the guest tables with an overlay( similar to your pink colour) ..and everyone raved about the sequin table cloths, so dont worry, it will look beautiful!

Hmmm. I can see why he thinks that. The tablecloth looks dated and clashes with the chair covers. Keep the chair covers and go with a solid tablecloth. White would work.

These were my sequin tablecloths at my wedding last year, with my pink satin tabelcoths with the overlay, to give you an idea.

I think that there’s too much shine/metallic. So either get rid of the tablecloth or chair cover. I also think you should put something between the vases and tablecloth to break them up a bit (like a table runner or some pretty cloth squares). And the flowers need to be set lower in the vase. Right now they sit too high and it looks funny.

cc5598: Haha I will ask him to set up his mock up next after Ive shipped back some of this lot! With poll included!
bibbithebee: Yes this is sort of what I was aiming for, but somehow it didn’t work as planned. I would rather find out now then invite everyone to my hideous 80s wedding! I love the chairs but I got quoted 8.50 a chair and would rather have another hour of bar, when it comes to budget crunching!
Thank you everybody for your honest opinions and ideas. I will tone down the satin on the chairs and try some of these suggestions to see if I can make it look more simple and elegant. I do have white and ivory tablecloths as an option and can return the tablecloths, if needed and start again. The vases are 36inches tall but will be on a much larger round table with 6 or 8 chairs. I think they can be returned also.

The blue vases are not working for me at all. They could work if blue was one of your colors, but it’s not. I would lose the chair covers and change the vases.

That’s what I thought! good to hear that I didn’t offend anyone! 🙂 and sure, that is totally understandable!
i actually ly saw your new pic of the original chairs now, at least from the picture they looked really nice! It pair them with white table cloth, and see through vases! Or metallic ones! LOTs of greenery in the flower-decorations.. And incorporate metallic in the tableware!
or just buy sequin table cloth? I think this look would be great with your chairs??? Maybe with white tablerunners/napkins like i the second pic!
It would be gorgeous! Please keep the chairs as they are? 😍

The look I am talking about would ofc work with the tablecloth you allready have as well! But iF you love sequin, you need to have sequin!

I think Mr. Tacky should pick the decor, post his mock up, and let the bee offer him some tips! Lol!
Seriously, though, if you don’t help, you don’t get to vote! He should be involved- it’s both of your wedding.
I think you’ve gotten some great tips- and even pictures!
I would: 1. Lose the chair covers. The chairs your venue has are fine, 2. The vases may be fine on the larger tables- on the smaller table you used for the mock up, they do look overpowering. See if you can see what they look like on the size table you’ll be using. 3. I’m fine with pink if you like it, but I’m not crazy about that shade or pattern- if you are using pink flowers, the colors may clash or you may just have a lot of pink.
i think this is a great start!

it’s….a bit much. i love shiny things, but you have too many shiny things. the chair covers aren’t great, and the pattern on the tablecloth isn’t helping much. either would be better without the other (though both are still kinda not the greatest).
sorry…but you asked. if you want sequin tableclothes, skip the chair covers and get solid (not patterened) sequins. or, keep the shiny chair covers (though not my taste) and get plain poly tablecloths.

stefano101: Yours looks lovely. It definitely can be done nicely.
So for now I have simplified things. Learning that less is more! I might even change out the gold votives for plainer white ones (less sparkle) . But I will definitely be taking on board a lot of these points and can hopefully come up with something better.

I hate to say anything negative about the decor people choose for their wedding but I scrolled down to the pics before reading anything and honestly thought it looked very 80’s.
I love sequin table cloths but the shiny sequins, the shiny satin chair covers and the peachy colour is giving off that vibe.
I agree with what a PP said about using a mirror or something similar under your flowers etc to bring it all together.

also, maybe it’s just me, but i’d be annoyed by having a tall glass centerpiece in my way of seeing/talking across the table
