@Juliepants: Future Mother-In-Law keeps insisting that we use a fauxtographer (friend of the family), as well, and it’s really starting to get on my nerves, lol–I mean, she brings it up every time we get together, no matter how adament I am about wanting a professional. Of course, her stance is that we just bought a house, and using the fauxtog friend is a $200 cost vs. $2,000+. UGH!
Don’t get me wrong, I know our friend could use the $ (she’s now pregnant with her 4th child, is getting evicted from her house (they were renting, and the owner sold it without letting them know until recently), etc., but, really! She photographed both of FI’s brothers’ weddings, and looking at the pictures makes me cringe. She’s nice and all, and they’re okay (that’s being liberal), but I want to look back on ours and be wowed.. not have blurry pics, or someone’s head cut off in a shot.

Care to inbox me some of the photogs you’ve looked at (for research pruposes)? LOL!

@Juliepants: No problem, I’ve been seeing a lot of them on Pinterest lately, but not wedding ones. Let us know how it goes!

Try looking into a local or near by college for aspiring phoitogrpahers. most of them have a great eye, would love to gain more exposure and will be very cost effective. Or also check into wedding photogrpahers that have a few weddings under their belt and are still trying to gain exposure, they will be less $$ too. Hope this helps.

First .. slap him! Okay better!? OK OK I’M JUST KIDDING!

Maybe he means the entire thing, in that being the actual wedding. But why have a party if you aren’t going to document it and remember it right; esp. as important as this?

And its not to say you cant hire a professional photog on a budget. To me $2400 is a lot on photography, but then again thats your selection, style and wants. =)

Dont take it personal, I think men (esp. my FI) throw around the phrase “waste of money” too lightly; because pick the wrong photog and it COULD be a waste.

@tgoss:

Great idea!!!!

to be honest I think that’s an amazing deal and I would LOVE to know the company….

I live n Mississauga and have a couple friends that have been photographers for a couple of years but are just starting out there business maybe looking into things like that will make a compromise on the price and you’ll still get your amazing pics

Here’s one:

@Lfata: The OP said they had a photog picked already . . . and why would you suggest someone who doesn’t even having wedding photos on their site? SMH

@BeeM:

Sorry I must have missed the whole thing about the photog already picked just making a suggestion…and the whole idea was to get a cheaper photog someone starting up a buis maybe could use your pics for a portfolio she does do weddings under pricing weddings are listed but as already stated the idea is to still get amazing pics for a lower price so trying out someone who’s just starting out is a great way to save some money on the photog

@Lfata

We recently had family pictures done and we went with an up and commer that charged us $100 for an hour session and all the prints. I would love to recommned her but we live in Texas. Thats when the idea came to me to that just because someone has not had a ton of exposure doesnt mean they are great. Get to them before they become a big deal and you can save. Who doesnt like to save $$! 🙂
