hemiandhighheels :  I am so sorry to hear this. I was in a cast and crutches for a family members wedding which was on the beach. I used my cast shower cover while we were on the beach to avoid getting sand in it. They laid out some ply wood to the seats and I juse walked on that, however they removed them so on the way back to the shuttles, I had to be assisted by a couple people, but it worked.

I was in the same cast during our trip to the Dominican Republic, things ARE do-able with a cast if the person can and is willing to go with the flow.

Did you buy trip insurance?

I’m so sorry bee. I will say that I broke both of my ankles (at different times) as an adult. The first time, I was running into my house from th garage. I overshot the door, I used my feet to stop myself. My left ankle broke from the force. I was in a cast for 8 weeks and my ankle was fine as soon as my cast came off.

The second time, I shattered my right ankle in a really bad car accident. I was on life support for 5 days and in the hospital for a month total. I ruptured my spleen, punctured my lungs, broke all of my ribs, had brain trauma, and more. I had surgery on my ankle to put screws and a plate put in about a week after the accident. I was in a cast for 12 weeks. I couldn’t walk on my cast like I could the first one. I had to use a wheelchair since I couldn’t use crutches due to my ribs. Again, as soon as my cast came off, my ankle was fine. I broke my ankles 8 and 10 years ago. I’ve not had any trouble with either since. While I was healing from the first one, I heard so many horror stories about someone breaking something and it never healed correctly. I was so scared that I would always have an issue, but that has not been my experience at all.

I know you are both incredibly disappointed. I know I was the first time because I had been cycling for about 12 weeks (the most dedicated I had ever been to really working out) and I was seeing amazing results. I’m sure this is about 1,000 times more disappointing. But, your fiancé will get better and hopefully you won’t have to postpone for too long. I think I would postpone everything, and have the beach wedding of your dreams when your fiancé is all better.

Best of luck with whatever you decide!
