I get your concern about finger coverage…even I at a size 7.5 was always kind of disappointed in how small certain sizes looked on me compared to other ladies on here with tiny dainty fingers. That being said, you can definitely get something with plenty of finger coverage for under $1200. Here’s a few I just found on Etsy (read the reviews for the jewelers though. I got my wedding band off of Etsy, and it turned out lovely)

This one is under $1k in 14k gold, and has a 2.5-3 carat sapphire in the middle

This one has a smaller sapphire, but a nice halo which will give decent finger coverage for $750 in 14k gold

Here’s a 2ct sapphire with a doulbe halo, under your budget in 10k gold

thicknette30:  check out moissaniteco!  They have beautiful cultured sapphires that they will put in any of their settings! This one is 14k white gold, with a 10 X 8mm sapphire and moissanite halo for under $1000!

I like the idea of you chipping in $800.  I know some guys don’t like that, but hey it’s 2015!  My ring is a peach sapphire, it came to $2000 total, and I did help pay for part of the stone (i think about $700).  Maybe you can just keep pushing that idea, or phrase it in a way to make him understand.

You have plenty of options within your price range! I would definitely suggest looking into vintage jewelry on either Etsy or in an antique shop. Compare different gemstones to get a feel for what you like.

If you guys look around for a while you could find some awesome deals…I had a certain ring that I wanted and my fiance’s price range was also to $1200 dollars, which I understood ( his debt will become my debt when we’re married! lol) but anyway we went into a shop together and I got to build my own engagement ring and they had an awesome deal going on and we bought my dream engagement ring for $2400 and the whole set was actually worth $5000. They were having a major sale at that time and after my fiance’ knowing what I wanted he agreed that since we were getting such an awesome deal he decided to spend a little more on the ring:D

Hey!  I don’t have any advice for rings for your size fingers (I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum with a 3.5 ring finger), but I wanted to let you know I can totally relate with dealing with a frugal FI!  Despite being able to afford more, my Fiance wanted to stay under $1000 with my ring (he did–$900) and is already panicking about affording a wedding (which we can totally handle).  I’m already trying to prepare myself for calming him down when we start having to make deposits, etc. 😛

Sapphire with halo, right? Quick search revealed these vintage options, all under the $1200 budget, except the last, which is about $1400. You’d have to check on whether they can be sized, of course. I LOVE looking at rings. Unfortunately, inventory ain’t great the week of Christmas — most of the good stuff has been snatched up.

The ring is one thing you don’t cheap out on. You wear it for the rest of your life. Whats 800 more dollars from you now versus forever with a ring you settled for. If hes not okay with you contributing the extra 800 then he should wait and save up more.

If not it looks like its a bigger relationship issue than this.

Here are a few I found on etsy. The first one is a great deal, with big beautiful old european cut diamonds in the halo! Definitly a good amount of finger coverage!
