What state do you live in???  In my state (Wisconsin) you have to wait 4 months from the time you file, until you can be divorced.  Also, you can not remarry for 6 months after your divorce is finalized.  That’s assuming that there is no fighting over children or finances or a house.  I wish you would not have planned your wedding already.  My Fiance is also still technically married and it’s been 3 years. They are fighting over stuff though.  Good luck to ya.

Was there a reason he waited til the date he did to do the papers?

Is there a reason this is all happening so quickly?

@Colieee34:

O.M.G.

My ex and I had a completely agreeable divorce and even went to file the final paperwork together. However, there were two errors, even with the help of a law clerk. It took the court six weeks to review, one week to notify us, then another 7 weeks to send the notification it was granted. In Canada, we have to wait 30 days until it is completely finalized.  idon’t know the law in yor state, but for us up here, that would definitely not be enough time.

I hope it works out!

@Colieee34:  Why are you rushing into marriage so quickly? Divorces are unpredictable and if his ex wants to make it unbearble she most certainly can. I would bank on the divorce NOT being finalized.

I think the question to me was why he didn’t file until two months ago.  I mean if you guys have been together for a year and a half he should have filed a year and a half ago.  I feel for you, but that would be a deal breaker for me.

Good luck!!  Sorry you can’t get a straight answer soon.  It’s going to be a long three months for you.  hang in ther!

@Colieee34:  If it were me I would wonder why he’s procrastinating on something that means he would get to spend the rest of his life with me. I would wonder if he isn’t really as ready to get married again as much as  you thought he was.
