My fiancé and I got engaged a few weeks ago (yay!) and we’re waiting to tell people until we have a ring. I’m not too fussed about the ring–until I got engaged, I thought I honestly wouldn’t want one–but my fiancé wants me to pick one out. I told him it was important to me that he put some thought into it, so our compromise was that I give him a list of five rings and he’ll choose the one he likes best.
I’m finding ring shopping super overwhelming and honestly kind of boring. I was hoping some of you bees might be able to offer recommendations? What I’m looking for:
Stone: Ruby, Sapphire (any color but blue) or London Blue Topaz
Stone cut: I like angular cuts, like cushion cut, emerald cut, etc.
Metals: White gold, rose gold, or rhodium-dipped black
Price: No real price limit, but my frugal heart would vastly prefer under $1000 or even closer to $500
If your ring fits my criteria or you’ve seen some that do, can you please show them off in pics? I’m ridiculously excited to marry this man, but shopping for a ring feels a little like shopping for a new duvet on Amazon. I’m just so not a jewelry person!

Use Etsy! I found my band on there (vintage- solid 10k white gold with 12 cognac diamonds, $80). Just search what you want like “gold ruby engagement ring” and set your price and go from there. Vintage is always the best if you want something unique or unusual.
My set for reference.

I’d try Etsy or Brillian Earth. They have options for lab created stones, and reasonable rings!

This is actually a ruby ring from the seller I bought my band from:
Here is a topaz I found:

Congratulations on your engagement! My fiance wanted me to basically pick out my ring as well.
I’ve never purchased from these sellers before, but WorldJewels, Twoperidotbirds, and SellerOfJewels on Etsy all seem to have a great collection of angular-cut London Blue Topaz and ruby rings (among other gemstone pieces) well in your price range. Or just search Etsy for “londan blue topaz engagement ring” or “ruby engagement ring,” etc. 🙂
Below is my engagement ring (left) and another ring I found on eBay (for $70!), both are white sapphire and 14k white gold. My engagement ring was also purchased from Etsy; the shop name is RareEarth.

I was eyeing this one a lot when I was looking for my own ring. I just got a custom sapphire ring from this dealer and I would highly recommend them!
If you’re willing to go the custom route, have a look at the gemstones they have available! Lots of sapphires in all colours of the rainbow.

+1 for Etsy. I’ve been casually looking at rose gold and sapphire/blue topaz rings for an RHR, and there’s a lot to be found there at very reasonable prices.
Brilliant Earth has some beautiful options, but might be priced out of your ideal budget (I’d love to get my hot little hands on their Sapphire Sierra Ring in 14k rose with a teal sapphire, but it’ll be many, many years until my similarly frugal heart can justify forking over $2k+ for another piece of jewelry).
Then again…I think that in your case, an engagement ring is a piece of jewelry that also has a great deal of sentimental value attached, and that you’ll probably have forever; so it might be worth a little splurge if you find something you really love. 🙂
Here’s this dreamy little number, btw: http://www.brilliantearth.com/Sapphire-Sierra-Ring-Rose-Gold-BE126-ST55RD/

I’ve always loved this seller from Etsy and I believe they would do a custom item: https://www.etsy.com/shop/onegarnetgirl?ref=l2-shopheader-name

I plan on getting mine through Rosados Box and they have really cool rings for a decent price and I think you would like some of them!

You ladies are the best! Thank you! I’ve been browsing Etsy but getting overwhelmed — having the names of some great sellers and some other wonderful websites is so helpful! And these gorgeous pictures are helping me get inspired to keep searching!
