So I have been reading around the David’s Bridal Alteration are actually pretty pricey (they quote me $200 for a hem and bustling which I thought was odd). I called around town and found two tailors that specialize in wedding dresses. Both have at least 20 years of experience and charged around $50-$100. I was excited and called my mom. She told me we were going with David’s Bridal because the lady they hired to do alterations is the one that did my sister’s dress and she did a fine job. So? She’s overpriced!
I set up a time to do a fitting with the first place this Thursday, but my mom is pretty adament about not going (though she might) because she thinks by going “cheap” I will be making a mistake. Even though I’ve showed her countless reviews of David’s Bridal being overpriced she said that is the price to pay for perfection.
I’m a cheapskate and am at least willing to look at other options. I’m not paying for it, so I might just let her have her way even though it bugs me to overpay for alterations.

If you’re not paying for it, then you should let her pay for the David’s Bridal alterations. It’s not worth the drama.

I know and probably will. It is just coming out of the wedding budget and I could do something fun with $100-$150 like get reception decorations or something. It just bugs me it is being wasted on making me look pretty. :-/

Maybe find some of the reviews online (I’ve seen a TON) about how David’s Bridal is not only overpriced but doesn’t always do a great job on the alterations either. I’ve heard a lot of negative things. That’s why I chose to go with an outside tailor (even though you lose the couple of perks DB otherwise provides). It’s a tailor my family has used for years and I trust him a lot more than someone from DB. I’d be the same way with the tailors you found with 20+ years experience. But if all else fails, you aren’t the one paying for it so if your mom wants to spend more, you may have to let her.

If you’re not paying for it let her spend double or triple on it. Of course David’s is going to be more pricey because they are a chain and have more overhead costs lol.
