i think if you have a gorgeous figure then “show off your figure ” works, and if your a bit larger etc then something that “flatters your figure” works. some people can wear anything and look sensational and some people need to choose the right type of style for their figure.

i chose my dress (mermaid) because im tall – 6ft and it “shows off my figure” cos im tall and lean and “flatters my figure” in the way that a ball gown swallows me up and i look bigger and frumpier than i am.

Ok I think it’s really just an issue of semantics and the fact that if you’re not the ideal thin-but-proportionately-curvy body type, you strive to flatter your body and look smaller. And if you are that ideal body type, you want to show it off.

This is my dress, I chose it because it shows me off in a good way, it makes me feel sexy.if I felt sexy in a more modest dress then I would of got that.

I got my dress for me so, it doesn’t matter what anyone else has to say about it.

It’s a matter of your style and preference. Not everyone who can rock a mermaid wants to.

your dress is classic and elegant, a bit Audrey in the back. I love it!

Mine is a fit and flare type, it hugs the body really close until about my mid thigh and then it flares out a decent amount.  It’s very similar to a mermaid but it flares out a little higher than mermaids.  It was by far the best style on my body.  I’m very tall and somewhat thin so it really gives me/shows of some curves!  Ball gowns and A-lines really didn’t do anything for my figure at all.  I mean, I looked perfectly fine in them…but they just didn’t have that WOW factor that the mermaid styles had.

So I think it’s both!  It definitely flatters my figure and shows it off.  I think there’s no way to know what looks best on you until you go try them on!  I knew that one looked the best because other people (at other appointments) started Ooohing and Aaahing when I tried it on.

I am a curvatious petite latina and was in the same pickle when i went dress shopping… the final two contenders were a fitted gown vs a ball gown… my cousin and BFF were drooling over the fitted gown bc they said it was VAVAVAVOom and if i had that body i should show it off, but then whith the a-line they said my waist looked super tiny and that it was soooo lady like and pretty…. which did i choose?…. THE BALL GOWN!!! beside’s the fact that it felt most like me, on my wedding day i didn’t want to be sexy (okay a little sexy, but not the obvious type of sexy) I wanted to be classic, classy, lady-like, etc. Plus i knew my FI’s thoughts on wedding dresses (he likes full skirts, that’s what he thinks of when he hears the word bride) so with those factors, i went for the ball gown, because hey, when else will I wear such an amazing dress again? so i say there is nothing wrong with hiding your sassy curves in a ball gown, as long as it flatters everthing else and doesn’t swallow you up… i found my ball gown, other petite curvy woman can too ๐Ÿ™‚

p.s. it was down to Allure 8955 (my dress) and Allure 8958

You look beautiful in your dress! I love how it’s so classic, but the back is very unique.

I think “show off your figure” is a matter of preference. I think I have a pretty nice figure, but I never wear clothing to show it off, I just wear what I like! I got an A-line dress because I felt like a beautiful bride in it. Sexy-factor didn’t play into my decision, although I know it does for some people1

It looks gorgeous! I think there’s not much difference between the two phrases. Bottom line is, wear something you feel good in.
