Hi: I hope this email finds you well! It was so great to find your blog when I google “Filipino American culture weddings”. I am a mixed Fil-Am girl marrying an Irish-Italian guy. We’re from NJ!

We’ve got a decision to make on kids at the wedding. He doesn’t see it as appropriate, I don’t mind at all. THere is a need for a compromise position if I want my family to attend. They are my cousins traveling from Cali and they have 7 kids amongst 5 families. Most of them YOUNG. I can’t see how they would find it possible to attend if they cannot bring the kids since they will be away for a couple days. Then we have my fiance’s family with 7 kids amongst 3 families and they live in the NY metro area.

I would like to know if it is unseemly for a Filipino to exclude children from a wedding. Our compromise position is to say that only folks that are flying here can have their children attend. But that means it is clearly my family only. Which seems quite unfair and excluding the fiance’s family.

Yike! What to do?

i’m a filipina bride with an irish groom 🙂

both catholic so we’re going to do the full catholic filipino ceremony. just from doing some research.. i’ve heard of brides not doing the coins. and just doing candle, vail, and cord sponsors. Is anyone doing this? also i’m planning on having my cousins as sponsors as we’re all close and my fiance and i are paying for the wedding ourselves.

any thoughts? i’m not sure if i’m doing this right. i’m a little embarrased to ask as i was born in raised in america.

Hello ladies,

I am new to this thread and was wondering if anyone knew the process of getting married in the Philippines? I am a duel citizen of the U.S. and P.I. and my fiancee is also a U.S. citizen. We would like to get married there and there is some confusion on what exactly we need to bring (documentation) before we go to the U.S. embassy office. Any clarification would help us greatly!

Does anyone know if I can have a coin bearer walk along with the ring bearer and have a seperate coin sponsor who will hold the actual coins and present them during the ceremony?

Has anyone seen this happen? I haven’t been to very many weddings.

whatsarahsaid:  Hi there.  I’m just wondering what you ended up doing.  My wedding is in Nov. 2016, and we were planning on having 3 bearer boys for rings, coins, and cord/veil.  Then we would have the sponsors present them to us during the ceremony.  Hope your wedding was wonderful!  Let me know if you have any advice 🙂
