Hi Bees,
I am Filipina and my Fiance is from Ireland, we are incorporating a lot of Irish things in the wedding(bagpiper), dancers, and invitation design. So I was thinking, would it be weird to have straight filipino food at the reception?
I was thinking, lumpia, fried rice, lechon, vegetable pansit and perhaps a few more choices.

I think most of the food you mentioned is stuff everybody likes. I’m white, but from a super filipino area and we always go nuts over lumpia and pansit. I say go for it!

I’m Filipina also, and I definitely think that a lot of the food you mentioned are very non-Filipino-friendly.
I think as long as you don’t give them dinuguan or pinapaitan or balut then you’ll be fine!
I’m going to try to get a lechon for my wedding too! By The Way my fiance is Mexican so we’re having Filipino and Mexican food at the wedding! And if you can bring your own alcohol to your site, Whole Foods sells San Miguel beer.

regarding lechon: precut or full on whole pig with apple it’s it’s mouth?
my friend said: “go big or go home” LOL!

I would like full-on pig, old school style! Carving station so that people can see it. We might have a hard time finding a caterer that does that, though, LOL!

I think including your culture is a cool. However, I don’t know what some of those things are, so maybe you could put names and descriptions of the items out and teach the Irish people who may not know.

kwago- ask a local filipino restaurant if they’ll do one for you, then maybe ask a tito if they can carve it for you guys
i’m lucky in the my future brother in law’s dad owns his own “lechon” company.
my godmother also owns a filipino restaurant

Yum – do it!!! I totally want some Filipino goodness at my reception – though it’s hard to have to settle for catered Filipino because my mom and grandma’s food is just so much better.
