OOOOH! That’s a hard one. I think my reaction would be to fix it up, even start from scratch, but see if there is anything they used that I could  salvage and  use on the do-over.

If you want to be more direct, you could thank them for making it, and tell them that you thought they knew the theme/color of your wedding and that you modified it a bit.

Honestly, just try and spruce it up the best you can and use it. People thinking your cardbox is ugly is better than pissing off/offending your in-laws. Not worth the drama, IMO.

I agree with Zippylef, you shoould fix what you can and just use it. In the grand scheme of things having an ugly cardbox is better than having inlaw drama. Just be sure to tell everyone that they made it for you 😉

I would have it accidentally get ruined somehow. Do you have a pet that it can be blamed on??

Do you have a cat or something that might “get into it and ruin the box?”

It’s kind of shady but that might help explain some changes to it.

Can you take a picture of it so we can see how to help it look better?

Oh geez, maybe put a scented potpourri thing inside the card box? And like PPs and Tim Gunn have said before, “Make it work!” This is a small detail and if it makes Future Mother-In-Law happy then you are better off using it.

Put it outside to get some of the odor out and tell them some birds had a few accidents on it…so you can redo it.

I think if any changes are made then it would hurt the IL feelings. Unfortunately she was nice enough to help, but your vision is not the same. Use it or buy one and have someone “gift” it to you. Then ask her advice on what to do now that you have two and you don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. Not the most honest route, but it might be your best option.

I say if you dont like it dont use it. I know that sounds mean and maybe thats the control freak in me talking, but if you are paying so much attention to detail and have this vision etc and that box just isnt fitting in… Then hopefully something doesnt “happen” to it a few days before the wedding so you have to make or get a new one. But I do have a question? Did they know your theme or did you give them guidelines for it?
