- Wedding: July 2011
So today, a whole 5 days before my wedding and one day before I fly out to San Diego, I had my final dress fitting…. it went well!!! I’m going to review my entire experience with them, because I know David’s Bridal stirs up a lot of mixed opinions in the wedding world. And of course there’s dress pics.
Was actually very good. I went to two different David’s Bridals, one in San Diego and one in Indianapolis (where I ultimately bought my dress). I did not have an appointment at the SD DB, and instead was a walk in in the middle of the day. It was the week after Christmas and there was NO ONE there but us… the sales consultant gave us her undivided attention, pulled tons of dresses, and we had a blast.
I did have an appointment for the Indianapolis one… thankfully, because they were busy!!! Do NOT, I repeat NOT go to DB on a weekend… you will regret it and feel like you are at a Running of the Brides event, appointment or no. So I had an appointment and they were very attentive, but very busy. I was also 15 minutes late for said appointment, and ended up having to wait 45 minutes… =(
I think it says a lot though that by the end of the appointment I was all smiles. The lady who helped me stayed late over the end of her shift to do so, and was ridiculously accomodating. And, I ended up finding my dress! I walked out all smiles.
I had to go back for a lot of little things (we bought flowergirl dress, Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses, etc there) and every time I did and my original consultant was there, she would come over to help us, regardless of how busy she was. AND she remembered our names! Amazing, IMO.
Dress Ordering, Shipping and Receipt
When you buy a DB dress, they give you a date approx. 3 months away for when it will come in. My dress, my Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses, and my Flower Girl dress all came in MUCH sooner than that- usually about 3-4 weeks!!! Amazing.
I should note that when you buy a dress, if you fit the floor sample, they WILL try to give you that dress. You have to ask special to have a new dress ordered- no extra charge, of course, but make sure you ask.
When your dress gets in, you go and pick it up, and if you are having alterations done there, make your appointment the same day for that.
I was nervous because the alterations lady made my first appointment only 3 weeks before the wedding. I even called about 7 weeks before because I knew I wanted a corset back put in, and I didn’t think 3 weeks was enough time.
It almost wasn’t (one more week ahead of time would have been better), but they did get it done and I was very impressed. They put on the corset back ($175), hemmed it ($40ish, I think?) and put a three point bustle on it ($35). All in all less than I was expecting, given how expensive I’ve been told their alterations are.
The lady in alterations was very helpful, and I was impressed. I’ll be honest- I don’t really like the bustle (might just bustle it at one point instead of the three she did and hope it doesn’t break), but she did show me what she was going to do ahead of time… I just pictured it differently, I guess.
Overall, David’s Bridal gets an A- from me, and I encourage anyone looking for their dresses to try it out. And now… for pics!!!! Taken today at my final fitting.
back view (I had the corset put in, and the straps will be tucked in on wedding day)
front view/all spread out and pretty… =)
This is my bustle… blah. =(
And this is the ginormous bag it came home in ($10) that I get to haul through the airport!
That’s all she wrote. Wedding in T minus 5 days. =)
