Hey Hive, I’ve got a final dress update! I have wanted to share my journey to the dress with you all b/c I know how tough it can be to be a size 26/28 lady and have limited options when it comes to trying on sample gowns. Background info here:
When we last left off in my epic gown saga (I don’t know why posting here inspires me to type like this :p) I had decided on Mori Lee 3111. Here is a picture of me in the dress (had to sneak it in quick at the shop that didn’t allow photos):
(BTW – this was 65lbs ago, woot!)
The corset would not close at all in the back, but with a little creativity I got a good look at what it would fit like in my size and was very happy with it. But I had some hesitation –I just thought the silhouette was too severe with the flare beginning so low at the knee line, and thought it would be way more flattering in more of a fit & flare silhouette. They assured me their seamstress could do it no problem, but I just couldn’t get 100% comfortable. I decided to take a couple of weeks to think about it, and try one more store.
This past Saturday, I went to Alfred Angelo Bridal. I’ll spare you the duds except for this one:
My mom really loved this dress, I really wish people on the internets weren’t crazy so I could show the expression on my face! I think it would be OK on someone a little younger, but it just didn’t feel like me. At all.
Finally, I tried on this one:
(Clipped to mimic a sweetheart neckline, and added off the shoulder sleeves – and 65lbs down!)
I thought this could be IT! With a sweetheart neckline, some detachable sleeves for the ceremony maybe this would work. But I just felt like it was missing something.
Then, the consultant showed me the dress in ivory. Oooh, the ivory would look delicious on my chocolatey-goodness. But still I wasn’t all the way there. They made me stand in natural light, sashay around a bit, try on a cathedral veil and blusher:
(I. Can’t. See.)
Then finally, another consultant came by and said I know just what you need…
Y’all! Something about this championship belt made it clear to me…this is MY dress! Wohoo! I think I just needed to see the extra waist definition and some more bling.
Oh yeah, now we’re talking!
I ordered it that day in ivory (not pictured), with the sash in charcoal gray to tie in some of our wedding colors and give the waistline some extra pop. I plan to have the neckline modified into a soft sweetheart, having detachable sleeves for the ceremony, ordering a fit and flare slip (and some industrial bodyshaper, lol) to exaggerate the silhouette, and finding some killer accessories.
I am SO excited, and I am glad to have finally found the right one for me. Fear not my diva sized ladies, she is out there!
