Thank you so much to all the bees who have been such a big help to get me to this place: my SO proposed!
Here’s some ring porn:
Wow, those pics are huge!
Short story before the proposal story: He and I are Jewish, so we’ve been celebrating Channukah for a few days now. Each night, we exchange one gift to the other. We have them labeled 12/8, 12/9… and so on. Before we went on our trip we packed the 12/8 and 12/9 presents. He then packed one for 12/10, saying that it was important that I open that present on the morning of 12/10.
Anyway, here’s the story: SO (now FI!) and I drove 3 hours to a relative’s lakehouse for our 4 year anniversary on Saturday. I didn’t suspect anything because he said the proposal would be when I least expected it. What could be more obvious than an anniversary getaway? We spent the night. The next day Sunday, we went to a winery and took a tour, then did a tasting. We then went to my BFF’s house in the next town over and hung out. We almost never get to see her, so this was the best. We changed into fancier clothes and my BFF let me use some of her makeup to touch up. She was acting all excited and nervous so I started to think something was up. We went to dinner at this REALLY fancy restaurant and I started getting MAJOR proposal vibes from my guy. I started to rush through the food (which was delicious) because I figured if he were going to propose it would be with dessert. At one point, I was trying to mentally force him to propose! If I thought about it hard enough, he would pop the question, darn it! …But he didn’t. We had dessert, he paid the bill, and we drove two hours back home. At that point, I had a huge knot of disappointment and rich food in my stomach. I asked my Fiance if it would be alright to just snuggle in bed instead of having a campfire and memosas like we planned. He seemed a little distressed but said something like “Let’s spend just a little time outside.” I said I’d change into pajamas and then go out and he said “no, come outside first!” I said “at least let me go to the restroom!” And as I walked out of the restroom, it hit me: he’s going to propose.
I walked outside and he was standing on the patio overlooking the lake, which is just gorgeous at night. He told me to take a seat, and said “I know you’ve been waiting for this for a long time.” Aaaaaand that’s about all I can remember because I immediately started crying! I know he said he loved me and that I was beautiful and wonderful, and then he reached over and picked up the present marked 12/10, unwrapped it and inside was my ring! He got on one knee and said Soobysays, will you marry me? I grabbed his face in both of my hands and said “Of course, you silly man!”
My ring is from Gemvara! It’s the Duchess of Hearts setting w/ a 1ct emerald from Chatham and three little sapphires on each side in the shape of a heart. Sapphires are his birthstone and they are meant to represent his love for me. There are a couple dozen little diamonds on it that make a swirl pattern. Fiance was REALLY clever on how to get the ring’s price down, but that’s a subject for another post.
Sorry this was so long! I love you, Waiting Bees, thanks again for everything and you can be sure I’ll stick around!
