So… I procrastinated. A lot. About the whole wedding planning thing. Part of it can be attributed to valid reasons (family health, etc.) but a lot of it – I was just overwhelmed.
I picked my date by calling a venue I liked and saying “Do you have any openings at the end of this summer?” This was 3 weeks ago. I’m not kidding.
It’s really not surprising that I’m just getting around to hunting for/hiring a photographer. It’s even less of a suprise that everyone is booked. One guy was really rude though (my poor mother called him) “Hell no, I can’t shoot a wedding this summer. Don’t you know I book two years in advance?!?” – obviously she didn’t know you were booked or she wouldn’t have called you. Grump.
I finally got confirmation that For Always Photography is available. The owner/photographer knows my parents in a round-about way, and recently blogged photos of a high school friend’s wedding. I am so happy to find someone, so I’m ready to sign on the line. I think I’m a little too eager to just get ANYONE, so I want a second opinion about the photos…. what do you think of the work?
(My wedding will also be a daytime, outside and casual to semi-formal wedding, so this is probably a decent set of photos to review.)

@UmbrellaMoon: While I don’t think there is ever an excuse for being rude, it can sometimes be difficult from the photographer’s perspective when people other than the actual couple are making the inquiry. Essentially you have to tell mom, sister, friends, etc that yes or no we have the date open, and if the couple is interested they need to contact us directly. Just adds an additional step. And while we do book way in advance there are some dates that might not book, and we don’t begrudge anyone for being last minute. It’s certainly in your best interest to be on top of the planning, but it doesn’t mean it won’t be a fun wedding to shoot and the money is still green. So I don’t get that!
Oh and as far as the photography goes the sample link you sent has some decent photos in it, albeit some of the processing is over the top for me. I think this particular photographer needs a new website in a really bad way. But as long as the contract is good and you’re comfortable with their work you should be fine.

I did a quick check of the website.
I could only find two weddings posted and most of those were posed pictures which would be a concern for some. If you are ok with the lack of depth in their portfolio then great.
The pictures from the two weddings were really nice though. Does the style of her pictures fit the style that you were looking for? I would say the photographer has a very specific style if not the two weddings posted were a very specific look. If that look fits your look even better.
Now I am assuming they haven’t done a lot of weddings because of the lack of posting but if you met with the photographer they might have others available for you to view and they might have more pictures of other activities through the day available for you to view.
The price seems a little high as well but that really depends on your area and also their experience so just check that out too.
Good luck. 🙂

@UmbrellaMoon: I think their work is nice and given how short your notice is, I’d say be glad they were available. It was wrong of another photog to be rude, but since many couples book their photographer a year or more in advance and given that your wedding is during the peak of wedding season, it would be a bit out there to get a call.
