- Wedding: May 2011
We finally had our wedding ceremony yesterday. It was amazing. Planning from abroad is quite difficult, especially with limited time.
We were prepared to marry a few weeks after the earthquake hit Japan. It was all too stressful to continue our plans. Especially without my family.
The decision to come back to my home was the best choice we ever could have made.
So many ups and downs trying to put the entire wedding together from afar but it pulled itself through.
We chose a Japanese garden in my hometown, I hadn’t seen it before but the pics on the internet seems reasonable. When we finally walked in and saw our wedding it was too beautiful. Words can’t describe all that we felt. We saw gorgeous lakes and gazebos, swans… whew. The actual day was so beautiful. The sun was shining bright, it was nice with a light breeze.
That moment made all that we had waited for, all that we had stressed about, all the ups and downs, just worth it. Nothing mattered..
We had a very unconventional set up with a variety of random last minute adjustments. Many things didn’t go right such as our last minute minister saying our names wrong 5 times.
The hired keyboard player not playing the keyboard and with a microphone that didn’t work for my best friend to sing.
My scheduled hair appointment becoming a failure so I couldn’t wear extensions, only my natural hair (which everyone loved, especially my husband).
But it didn’t matter. It was perfect as is.
We had a lovely reception in my Moms friends house. He prepared all the food, punch, drinks. My Mom is a wedding cake designer and she made my wedding cake and the grooms cake.
My husband puts hot sauce on everything, so my Mom designed this especially.
We later went out for drinks with the closest family members and my Mom gave me and my new husband a surprise carriage ride with champagne. It was our perfect chance to be alone and discuss everything and enjoy each other.
We later rode home to my families house where I slept in my childhood bedroom. We were both too tired with the 12hour time difference to enjoy a night out at the hotel. We peacefully went to sleep and later I took advil for my terrible headache.
For us this was perfect and nothing else needed. Finally we are truly husband and wife.
