- Wedding: May 2013
It was beautiful and exactly how I pictured it to be. I don’t have pics yet except for ones taken with mobile phones (gotta love mobile technology). Everyone had a great time and it was worth all the work. We didn’t worry about rigid reception formalities which drove the coordinator crazy (we changed our first dance song at the last minute so we could dance to my daughter singing) and went straight from that to the cake cutting (we had already eaten dinner) and I thought the coordinator was going to have a heart attack. But we wanted everyone to get to the fun stuff and it worked out perfectly. Here are the things that I will share with those still planning/stressing:
My BMs all had different dresses but the same color (black) and it still looked beautiful (even the one that waited until 2 days before the wedding to get her dress).
Strict schedules or guidelines need to be thrown out the window. My ceremony started 15 mins late (guests were stuck in traffic)and my reception probably 45 mins late. Nobody noticed or cared (although we did have the bar open at the reception).
We had a cash bar and not a single person thought it was “tacky” or “cheap”. In fact as we were planning almost everyone thought we were crazy for even considering an open bar.
Pit rained on my wedding day and I had an outdoor ceremony. They say it’s good luck but I was still in tears all day. The rain stopped long enough for us to get the ceremony area dried off and until we got through the receiving line. We had enough time to get the important pics. Did I get all the pics/poses that I wanted? No bUt the ones we got were perfect and the clouds made our colors really pop (pinks)
We spent less than $8k on the whole shindig and i didn’t miss a thing that we left out.
Bottom lIne, try not to stress over all the details the wedding sites or others say are “must haves”. We focused on the moSt Important thing (Our vows) and making sure our guests had a great time. And from what I’ve been told and heard we had the best wedding anyone had been to.
