I had cramping early on as well (like period cramping) so don’t stress unless you have bleeding along with it. I have the What to Expect book and You’re Pregnancy Week by Week. I like the week by week book because it’s very straight forward as to what’s happening with you and the baby without a lot of extra “advice” thrown in – definitely more medical. The What to Expect book is okay but it goes by month rather than week which I don’t like as much.
Both have WAAAYY to much info for me personally (I guess since they cover every condition and issue that you could have) so I just read the important parts and skim the rest.
Your appointment was pretty basic but usually they like to wait till 8 weeks so they can see the heartbeat, until then all they really can do is another pee test. But the waiting till that appt seems sooo long.

Congratulations Sand Dollar! DH and I just found out we are expecting a baby due the same week in August. We still haven’t told anyone except my mom, and she and DH both keep nagging me to start telling more people, especially our family. I am just not sure that I’m ready! It was an unplanned pregnancy, and I am super nervous that something might go wrong, and then we would have to go back to all the people we told and tell them the bad news. I have tentatively decided to wait until after our first Dr. appt to tell anyone else (Jan 10). It feels like such a long time to wait!
Again, congrats, SD! Good luck with everything!!!

I’m in the same boat, and we also have the same day for the prenatal! I’m hoping that we get a sonogram during that one to hear the heartbeat. My plan was to just tell family until around 10-14 weeks, but my husband got a little carried away in his excitement. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that things keep going well. I just hit week 5 today, so I’m about 1/3 of the way to the “safe zone”

Congrats Sanddollar! I’m so happy for you!
As for books, I’ve been “banned” from reading them as my hubby thinks I convience myself that I should feel a certain way and then I did. Goober man. By The Way, if you start getting really sick, play around with when you take prenantals and which ones you take. That really helped me. And it’s never too early to start reading about which birthing method you like.

And, yes, I had cramping at about the point you are at in your pregnancy. I had implantation bleeding and actually didn’t know I was pregnant until I missed my second period – which I had cramping leading into, and thought I was PMSing. So, totally normal!!

We are also due August 18th! So happy to have some early ones on the board!
I had some really bad sharp pains on one side (towards my waist). When I went in for my orientation, they also did an u/s to make sure it wasn’t ectopic. Other than that they said it was normal!
