At last I’m finally having some progress with my Dr.
Little background: I have PCOS and an underactive thyroid, both under reasonable control, I have a healthy diet and a good BMI however I haven’t had a period since November and I’ve started feeling a bit lost about why my usually regular cycle had gone awol. Previous doctor visits just left me feeling alone dealing with the issue and I was frankly starting to lose my mind.
So I went this morning and expected to be given the usual brush off of you’re young, you’re probably fine, just go home and wait for your period. Not helpful or productive when your TTC!
I saw a female doc (this shouldn’t make a difference but clearly it does) and she was very sympathetic. She understood my concerns and said she would help. She is sending me for a FULL blood analysis to check all my hormone levels, as well as anything else that can cause a period to go awol. I’m going to go tomorrow. She said that there are so many tests they’ll do with my sample it might take a week to get all the results back.
She then said that once the results are back in I should make another appointment with her to discuss the results. She mentioned that the results might not show anything abnormal up at all but in either case she would be happy to refer me to the infertility clinic. She stressed that while it’s called this, she’s not in any way implying that I’m actually infertile. I just need a bit of help getting back on track. I asked if I’d have to wait a year to be referred( which is usual standard in the UK) and she said she didn’t see any reason why not. She did however mention that the first thing they would do before that referral is to have a semen analysis done, just because that is so straightforward and easy to do and allows the doctors to know what (if any) issues my Darling Husband husband might have. Again she mentioned that this isn’t based on any assumption there is something wrong with him but just that it is easier to do these tests by process of elimination.
So, a lot to take in but all very positive. She was very considerate and I really really couldn’t appreciate her support more right now. I feel like I have a doctor who is listening to me, and is taking me seriously.

YAY! That’s great! I hope they are checking vitamin D and B12 levels for you in those tests. Being low or deficient in either of those can also throw off your cycles. That’s fantastic that you won’t have to wait for a referral and that they are going to start doing some of the basic testing!

I’m so glad to hear that you finally had a positive experience. I know how frustrating it can be when doctors aren’t listening. After all, it’s YOUR health! You deserve to have someone take it seriously!
Can’t wait for an update!

I’m glad to see that your doctor took your concerns seriously and that you got some bloodwork done so that you are making some progress! I also have thyroid problems (Hyper as opposed to hypo) and like you, my period went away for six months. It was crazy and scary. I really hope that your doctor can help get back your cycle!

Thanks guys, I can’t begin to tell you how it has changed my mood, I’ve felt like I’ve had this weighing on me for weeks, and every time I’ve gone to the toilet I’ve wondered where the [email protected]#! are you! Now I feel like I don’t have to worry, I’ve got the doctors helping me now.
It was super sweet when Darling Husband asked me how it went and I mentioned that before they would do more in depth testing on me he might need to have some semen tests, I waited to see the look of horror come across his face, and he just said, “yeah that’s ok I can do that” Awww 🙂

@Soon2BeeMrsG: Glad to hear there’s progress. Are you on Metformin? That’s what they put me on for PCOS and I’m regular as a Timex.
