Please make sure you are not signing yourself up for a life time of this. If he has spending highs and lows and addiction problems he may need to be assessed by a physician. He may have bipolar. Have you discussed this? 

You have a child that needs you and needs your FH. That means being stable and it sounds like your FH needs some work done (on himself) before this happens

j_jaye:  I agree.  For the savings account, neither of you should be spending from it for whatever.  Get a decent savings rate and set it up as both to sign.

my DH and I had very different views of money management and priorities. Seriously, the best thing we ever did for our financial future and marriage is take Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University class.

They have them country wide, and while they say they are biblically based, there’s no arguing about how informative and useful the class is for the everyday person. And the biblical part isn’t very in your face.
