Hey Ladies (and gents)!
My fiance and I live in Pittsburgh, PA and are having a very small (20 people) wedding in NYC this coming september. We fell in love in NYC, which is why we’re getting married there. We are on a VERY tight budget (like i’m talking less than $3000). I’m sure you’re wondering how THE HELL are we going to afford an NYC wedding for $3000. Well, it can be done, my friends. This post is about finding a photographer, so lets just stick to that.
I’m sure you’ve all been to bridal shows or checked out peoples websites and thought to yourself, “holy shit, photography is going to be a small forturne.” IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE! Use these tips to find an AWESOME photographer for a fraction of normal costs.
What did we do? PUT AN AD ON CRAIGSLIST! We put an ad on craigslist under the “creative gig” section, looking for a photographer for that day. We explained what we were looking for, and also our situation. We asked for them to send their portfolio and photography style. In 24 hours I received over 50 responses from all different kinds of photographers that you wouldn’t normally see at bridal shows or on wedding forums. Plus, everyone was so excited and wanting to help us have beautiful images, despite our lack of funds.
Opt to edit the images yourself! — My fiance is a photographer (lucky me), so we are opting to edit the images our selves. The photographer is giving us the “raw images” after the ceremony and my fiance (well, husband at that point), will edit them once we get home!
Just photograph the ceremony– We are having a small reception at our favorite swing dancing club, and we have no need for a photographer there. If you opt out of the “all day” photography deal, you’ll save A TON of money. If you want pictures of the whole day, give everyone a disposable camera (how 90’s of me to say). Or! There are a TON of apps that allow ALL of the guests to connect to and post any pictures from the event so they’re all in one place. Then you can even print the ones you like. The ceremony and “tradtional” wedding pictures afterwards are the ones that your grandkids will see, so who needs some dude taking pictures of Aunt Ruth getting sweaty on the dance floor when your family can do it!
I hope these tips helped! HAVE A WONDERFUL WEDDING
