Hey bees,
Any thoughts on the Kate Spade China? I know it’s made by lenox, so is it high-quality? Just want to make sure it’s going to hold the test of time.
Here are the two I’m considering. I’d rather not have my guests spend a ton of money on china. The Kate Spade set is 149 for a 5-piece setting and the Pickard is $295 for a 5-piece setting. What do you think?
Is it worth it to go with the Pickard for quality purposes? Or does this all come down to a matter of taste?
Here’s the kate spade:

Here’s the pickard:

Both of those are lovely and will mix well with holiday pieces.
Here is the issue.. most patterns will get discontinued so make sure you have all the place settings you want and maybe even a few additional plates! I am not sure of any china patterns that are ‘timeless’ and never get discontinued and the only crystal that is eternal (that I know of) is Waterford Lizmore.

Lenox is high quality and will last. I wonder though, if you have considered some more elaborate designs? Personally I find the ‘gold rim’ or ‘platinum rim’ pretty but a bit boring. Why spend all that money for a gold stripe?

I’m not sure but I would think Kate Spade wouldn’t put her name on something that isn’t quality. With that said, yes Pickard is higher end/better quality. My vote however is for the Kate Spade….for 2 reasons, 1) the cup…it looks more modern and less pinkies up haha and 2) I prefer the color of that gold over the dull looking gold in the Pickard (it could just be the way its showing up in the pic).
What are your reasons for buying china? Do you just want it for family/holiday dinners, or are you looking for an “investment” or something to pass down. Not saying you couldnt do that with the Kate Spade, but the Pickard could be more of a heirloom.

I’m also so glad another bee is posting about China on here 🙂 A few months ago I started a thread curious if this was still a thing. My Fiance and I decided to go for it. Here’s ours (Vera Wang)…also posting it in the gold color in case you’re still shopping:

That Vera Wang is beautiful! I like the option of plain mixed with more embellished.
I went bold…. I love the Art Deco feel of mine… Lenox Tosca. I’ve had it for 20+ years and have never tired of it.

I wish I had pics of my grandmother’s china…. it’s very elaborate and just gorgeous. My sister has it, so if I remember I’ll take a pic next time I’m there.

katebluestone : Isn’t it!? We went more “plain” because I’ll be inheriting both my grandmother and my mom’s sets. They both have pretty busy patterns, so I wanted something that would pair well with them for those times I wanted to “jazz” things up 🙂
