Reposting because I closed the thread by accident. Newbie 🙂
I have a fairly simple satin wedding dress (Maggie Sottero Montana – in the pic) that has a very low back. I have fine hair that has trouble holding curls that should be a few inches below my shoulders for my wedding. I have trouble growing it longer than that as the ends look thin when it gets longer than that. I am meeting with a hairstylist to look into options for extensions. I am really liking the idea of a side ponytail/braid like the pictures. I can’t do my hair trial until a few days before the wedding since I am having a destination wedding. I was going to do a trial at a salon at home to get some ideas and pictures to bring with me so I’m hoping I will have an idea of what might work before I leave for the wedding.
I’m wondering if this idea is just unrealistic with my fine hair. I would love to hear from others to see what your experience was. I don’t want to damage my hair with extensions, but I’m wondering if non-clip in extensions would be good so I could have nicer hair for my honeymoon as well.

I just went for my trial last week and actually wanted something quite similar to your pictures, although not exactly the same. I am now stuck with deciding on a new style for my second trial as the briad look just didn’t work with my fine hair.
I often braid my hair myself for everyday wear but it just can’t make the type of braid suitable for a wedding. And I don’t want to put extensions in either. I don’t have any advice, just wanted to sharr my experience.
Hope you come right, please post pics of your trial when you go.

I have fine hair, and I suspect you’re going to need a super talented hair stylist to make a braid like that with fine hair, but one thing we did a lot in the film industry was braid an extension into the hair instead of clipping it.
I mean, it would be pinned in with Bobby pins or with a hair clip, but not at the top of the head, but rather where the braid starts. With these styles, whennthe braid starts higher I’m not sure how that would work- but what this does for fine hair is bury the clip in by not having it on top of the head, and nestles it into a thick bunch of hair.
By the way, love your dress!

I have super fine hair – like yours is gets all horrible near the ends when it gets to a certain length. I have purchased some clip in hair extensions and plan on doing this. I kid you not, I will be doing rainbow hair for it! I say go for it. I’d love to be all natural for the wedding, but it’s just not feasible!

sabride2017 : What are you thinking of as alternative hairstyles? I’m meeting with someone later this month to talk about extensions. I’m paranoid they will make my hair worse so I am interested in hearing what she has to say.
BalletParker : Thanks!
rachelward16 : are your extensions clip in at the crown or just for the braid? Is that your extensions on you for the picture you posted? I love the braid 🙂 My fiance likes my hair down but I know it would be a disaster after an hour or so, which is why I think having it braided might keep it more together. I’m really curious to see about extensions. Wish I was born with nice thick hair!!

Clip in at the crown. 🙂 Oh I wish! It’s my inspiration! I will be bleaching my hair to match my extensions, then dying my hair & extensions funky colours sometime towards the end of January just incase something goes wrong & I have time to rectify it and get used to the extensions! Plus, I’m getting very itchy about dying my hair. I can always let you know how it all goes if you’d like? Or would that be too short notice for your July wedding?
I’ve contemplated hair curled down the side and round, hair up and a fishtail braid. For all of those ideas I’ve envisoned extensions as I just don’t have enough hair! I keep always going back to the braid.
