Hello! I’m planning a wedding in the Finger Lakes for fall 2014 and welcome any and all advice…location, photographer, caterer, DJ, cake…I need it all! It’s a destination wedding, so I’m planning from afar! We’re not really stuck with a particular lake, but would love the ceremony and reception at the same place and want to be married outdoors with a view of the lake. Thanks in advance for any and all advice!

@sunny330: that would be wonderful. Fiance & I went through there on the way to Niagara, on our engagement holiday.

@sunny330: Well, there are a lot of fantastic venues. I’m from the Upstate NY area, and can happily recommend some vendors, depending on which lake you’re looking at. If you’re looking closer to the Syracuse area, let me know.
Some venues/areas you should check out:
– Skaneateles: the lake is insanely pretty, and the town is picturesque. We looked at the Sherwood, but decided against it because they wanted something crazy to rent out an extra dining room. But you can get married outdoors, right on the lake.
– The Aurora Inn: I LOVED this place, and would have booked it, but our wedding is in the winter, and their indoor space isn’t large enough. Its on Cayuga Lake and again, has great views, a historic feel, and awesome rooms. In the summer, they set up huge tents on their patio.
If you want more suggestions, PM me. I can give you the list of vendors that we’re using and are happy with.

We once stayed at the Buttonwood (at least I think that was the name) Winery for a long weekend (they have cabins for rent) and it was quite lovely, and we could see the lake from our porch. Check them out! 🙂

@BlondeBee: Thanks! I’ll definitely be in touch once we settle on a place!

@sunny330: I went to a wedding at the Aurora Inn and it was absolutely lovely. It was summertime, which I would definitely recommend. Winter can be brutal up there. I’ve also been to events at La Tourelle in Ithaca, which I’ve always loved. It’s not directly on the lake (also Cayuga) but is high up on the hill with gorgeous views of the lake.
