I hate regular gloves, but I’m totally into armwarmers/fingerless gloves. I have mostly plain “functional” ones, but I have a few dressy pairs with lace, trim, or corset-style ribbons that I’ll occasionally drag out of the drawer.
I thought it might be interesting to look into the idea of wearing some with my wedding dress. My dress will be a 50’s style tea-length with a full skirt, off-the-shoulder sleeves, and a sweetheart neckline. The neckline will actually be very similar to this, with slightly wider sleeves:
At first I thought of doing fancy fingerless gloves about halfway up the length of my lower arm, as it would conveniently hide some very nasty surgical scars. But I can’t seem to find any photos of anyone wearing gloves of that length with this style of dress/sleeves/neckline, and I just can’t picture it in my head, either. I have seen plenty of pictures with similar retro or vintage style dresses with just wrist-length gloves, and I think they look great. My only concern is that they would have to be rediculously comfortable at that length, or it would drive me nuts. I’ve got slight nerve damage from the arm surgery, and right around my wrist is very… let’s say “fickle.” I’m ok with trying to add felt or something to make them more comfy, if it wouldn’t ruin the glove. So that might count out a super thin lace.
So what do you ladies think? Custom half-length gloves, or cute little short ones? Or do you have another entirely different, awesome suggestion?

LOVE the idea of the long ones; especially if you wear them all the time. And it seems perfect with the style. Perhaps a pic of the dress to get a better idea? (though I’m trying to picture it all in my head)
I would try on the different small gloves and see how they feel. If you can find one that’s comfortable, I think it would look very nice. But, still a fan of the long ones. Why don’t you try on the dress with those gloves to get a better idea? Or a shirt thats similar to it to get an idea?
As far as coming up with something else; I can’t think of anything that would replace the look and meaning that the fingerless gloves would have (again, because they’re part of your style). I hope you’re able to find them … and show us picks! Now I’m curious if I’m picturing this right in my head! lol

With a 50’s tea length, I would go with the short ones. It is so Audrey Hepburn.

tksjewelry:Lol… I’m practically becoming a budget-Audrey! I even ride a Vespa!
njm1313:I can’t actually give a picture of the dress, because I haven’t made it yet! I do have the fabric and some patterns, as well as some assistance. Hope to get started on it by Thanksgiving-ish.
Think this type of neckline:
But on top of this kind of dress (this one is from Whirling Turban):
Initially, I’m drawn towards these gloves from Etsy, because even if they don’t go with the dress, they’re too freaking awesome. I think they’d even go great with jeans. The dress and major accessories are all going to be ivory. A short-ish elbow length veil is also being planned.

Short gloves (with fingers) would be adorable but I’m not into the fingerless glove look with that type of dress.
