My husband and I are in our late 30’s and newlyweds.
I need to share this with someone since I don’t want to tell my family or friends yet that we are TTC.
This weekend I stopped BC and we are using condoms. We haven’t used condoms since early 2010. I have been on BC for about 15 years and just stopped to regulate. My husband thinks it is OK to use these same condoms from when we started dating since the printed expiration date is 2014. It is OK if we conceive (wish I am secretly hoping happens) otherwise we will really start trying in December/January.
I love my husband but he is too funny thinking 3 year old condoms are still good.

If the expiration date is 2014 and they have been stored properly (somewhere cool and dry, not in a hot car or stuck in a wallet) they are probably fine to use.

If you are secretly hoping it happens now, why not talk to your Darling Husband about moving up the timeline? As @Glasgowbound: said, they could still be good.

@KH: Yep, I totally agree.
When I first came off BCP, I felt like I was super vulnerable to pregnancy, when in fact, condoms are very effective at preventing pregnancy! I think it will be hard for you to hope you are pregnant each month while using condoms, since chances are they won’t fail (even if they are old).

@loveus: Why would you use condoms if you’re trying to become pregnant? I don’t think that having sex without protection as soon as you come of the BC is an issue at all. Lost of baby dust to you!

I think they’ll be fine to use if they haven’t expired! Try talking to your Darling Husband about starting now since you never know how long it’ll take ! Haha We were originally going to try for December, but moved it to July when we heard that it might take a few months or more 🙂

Thanks ladies. I am OK with waiting a few months but secretly it would be great if it happens sooner.
My husband and I know all the pros/cons and there are no secrets. We already moved up our date ttc but nothing wrong if it happens sooner :0)
