Has anyone had a fire hall wedding? Fiance and I were planning a wedding at a really nice venue, but unfortunately we had some unexpected money problems and had to change our plans and find a cheaper place and move our date later. My grandfather used to work as a fire fighter so my mom found out we could use the banquet hall there for free and all we pay for is their in house caterer which only charges $35pp. The fire hall and the caterer have a bunch of awards from the knot and wedding wire, but I am still worried because my previous venue was at this beautiful country club and now I am going to a windowless fire hall that really just looks like a usual catering hall. I am really happy to be saving all this money that we will be able to use elsewhere, but I am so worried that it is going to ugly and not what I had envisioned.
Anyone else have their wedding at a fire hall? Do you have pictures and/or good stories to tell so I don’t have to feel so worried.

My family once had a reunion in a fire hall! It was fine with some decorations, and the food was GREAT!

@thefuturemrsD: Do you have photos?

@creativeplannertobee: They don’t have to many posted, but these were the best ones they had.

That really doesn’t look bad at all, and you could definitely make it look even better with professional lighting and maybe some draping.

I think that’s lovely.. and the ceiling are short enough where you won’t need to decorate them.. or if you want to, they are easily decorated!
I wouldn’t mind going to a wedding like this at all.
But I could be biased, we’re looking at having our wedding in a pole barn.. lol

@thefuturemrsD: much better than I was expecting. I sent you a PM.

I am also having my wedding at a fire hall and it’s completely DIY. I am decorating it my way – which I love. It gives you freedom to really make it your own and create the ambiance you want.
I understand your anxiety, though, since you sound like you were planning on having something fancy at a country club but now feel like you have to settle for a fire hall. Honestly, it’s about the day and what it represents. You don’t need windows or elegant chandeliers or whatever else to make it more special for you or your guests. People will remember the food, entertainment and the look in you and your new husband’s eyes as you slow dance. And you will remember marrying your best friend and that’s all that counts. Everything else is minor detail.

What kind of atmosphere/decor do you want?

Thanks everyone your really helping to make me feel better about it. I know it’s not a totally ugly space compared to some other fire halls I have seen. It’s just hard when I had been planning a wedding at one place and now I have to envision a whole new theme in a completely different space. I was planning on DIY the other venue too so now I just have to figure out what to so with this place.
I was thinking about adding some uplighting I found a picture of the room with uplighting and it made it look much more like a wedding. I’m just lost as to what else I should do.
@MxH13: I totally agree with you! I am honestly more worried about people having fun and having a special day than what the place looks like, but I still have a part of me that wants to make it look really nice and compareable to the other place.

i think it looks fantastic. when you said firehall I envisioned what firehalls look like in my area(drab, bingo halls-which there isn’t much else to use until recently), and that looks like a hotel hall compared to my firehalls. I think your wedding will look great there.

I think its lovely, not at all what I envisioned when you said “firehall”.

I think it will work nicely, the only thing really missing from the pictures IMO is color! Everything is so white. I think if you ditch the chair covers, add uplighting, flowers, maybe some tablecloths in a wedding color, it will lookgreat. Plus the tie-in to your grandpa is pretty neat.

@thefuturemrsD: just decorate it really well! and it will be perfect. It does not look bad, and since its basically a blank canvas you can do whatever you want with decorations!
just remember the venue isn’t too important, its marrying the love of your life!
