I have been pricing food for the wedding, and I am having a really hard time wraping my head around the cost of it. I have a cater (who is AWESOME) but it is next to impossible to find someplace in the area where they will let you bring in your own caterer without charging an arm and a leg for the site.
So I am considering a firehall. It is actually quite nice, the fire dept in the town has a VERY large fundraiser every year and it is a pretty new building. I really meets my needs but I still have reservations about the whole idea of having my reception there.
Things that are important to me- being able to invite everyone I want to (we both have very large families so it makes our guest list huge) and sound like a lush I may, but I really don’t want to have to send everyone home at a certain time. I want to be able to enjoy my day until I fall over.
What are the thoughts of my fellow bees?

@Cant pick a date: I am biased cause my husband is a fireman but I say go with the firehall. Especially if you you really think it meets your needs. Do you have a pic? Maybe we can help you come up with some decorating ideas?

Without knowing anything about it, that sounds really cool to me!

No pics, but I have been in their for party’s before and it is very nice. It has an awesome kitchen for my awesome caterer and a huge open area for the tables/band/dance floor.
My dad was a firefighter and I was an EMT, so it should be fairly cheap to rent (they generally are anyways). The more I think about it the better I like spending half the money on food/booze.
Thank you guys! I just hate the cliche of it, I live in a rural area and work with people who are a little more judgmental so I think that has kinda put a bias to my decision, but it is very ME.

I would go with the firehall! It sounds like it’s really nice, plus you can personalize so much more.We are having a rustic wedding in a small country town and actually have a friend letting us use their barn for the reception. I must say, I really prefer having the advantage of not having so many restrictions (and costs – we are saving tons!) involved with the venue.

I really wanted to do it at my parents house, that was my first choice. But mom is stressing about it. My parents are very busy people, they are rarely home on the weekends so the prep for it really would be alot of work.
The idea is growing on me more and more the more I sit here, and the people who find it “tacky”, well they just don’t know me that well (And don’t know how to have a great time!)

@Cant pick a date: I am newly engaged and i am in total sticker shock. FH and I will be paying for the wedding and we have a large guest list, and there is just NO way we can afford 100.00 per plate or more ( the going rate of country club style venues around our area). This being said, we will probably be booking a fire hall to accommodate our large guest list and small budget. I say go for it! It’s more important to be surrounded by those you love than be in a ritzy country club! 🙂
