@JemmyGee:  I’m planning on doing a handmade pop up card with a gift certificate for a dinner date or maybe his favorite sporting goods store.

@JemmyGee:  Paper could be money – give him a stack of cash 😛 Personally, I wouldn’t follow these paper, wood, etc. things. I would just get him something he wants and needs.

However, if you are set on it, did you consider the modern version of the list? For example, for the first year the traditional gift is paper (like you mentioned), but the modern spin on it is clocks (hello, nice new watch).

What about a coupon book? You could make it yourself and have different date nights in there that he would enjoy.

@JemmyGee:  I see what you’re saying and my FI’s job is the same way. My parents gave him a pocket watch that he brings with him everywhere. It’s old fashioned, but he loves it 🙂

i know a lot of people that have done sheet music for their first dance song. they had it framed really nicely (: another option along those lines is to have the lyrics laid over a photo of you two. i saw that done on etsy and pinterest a couple times.

funny “paper anniversary” story: my fiance works at an office supply store. last year, a coworker was celebrating his first anniversary with his wife. he knew it was “paper”. what did he buy her? a ream of copy paper. everyone was like, “seriously dude?”
