Like the title says, our first anniversary is about 13 days (not that I’m counting 😉 but I don’t have anything in mind to get my hubby! He has been great throughout the past year and I would love to do something that honors him but he is the hardest person to shop for. We don’t have a ton of money right now but I am willing to put up to a couple of hundred dollars on a credit card if I find something he will love and make him ridiculously happy (I know, I know…priorities).
Do any bees have any great ideas of what to give for a first anniversary? What did you give/do or what do you have planned?
Here is some background that may sway gift ideas:
We didn’t have a “first dance” and he doesn’t travel a lot (goodbye all those cute Etsy ideas with lyrics and maps!)
He has a date planned in honor of our anniversary. All I have been told is that it will be about $40 and will be casual.
I thought about getting Science Museum memberships for us but I know my family is planning on doing that for our Christmas presents.
I gave him a giant canvas of a wedding print for Christmas, and whiskey stones, pie irons, and a crossword puzzle book for his birthday at the begining of this month. Both were big hits.
He has no interest in clothing or accessories but would love a pair of nice leather flip flops since our puppies ate his. I feel weird about giving that as an anniversary gift though!
I’d love to find something sentimental but am having a complete brain fart as to what. I feel like a jerk for waiting until the last minute but I have switched jobs twice in the past 4 months so I haven’t exactly been on my A game and my stress level has been out of this world. Darling Husband has really stepped up which is why I want to express my love and grattidue.
Any brilliant ideas, bees?

The first year is usually the “paper” anniversary, is there an event or concert you could buy tickets to?

Tickets to a baseball game. if you spring for the posh seats, even people who don’t like baseball will have a fun time. At the stadium here in DC there is a posh seat package that includes free beer/wine, a buffet dinner (nice food too, not just hotdogs) and an air conditioned lounge with big screen TV’s in case it’s oppressively hot outside.
Also not sure how far Mankato is from you but I don’t think there’s a man alive who would not LOVE to go drive a tank. http://driveatank.com/

We did traditional paper gifts. I received a gift certificate for a massage and I gifted him a picture of the beach we were married on with the stars depicted exactly how they appeared the night we were married (indigonights.com about $150 framed) it comes with a graft of the stars and constilations.

I went traditional with paper and purchased a print from etsy and bought a frame at Kohls. probably cost me $30 total, but he can keep it on his desk and know it represents us, which I like.
This is what I chose. He loves robots.

@bdemps11: good plan. I just found tickets to Prairie Home Company which he loves..and I hate. But its all in the spirit of giving, right? I’m inspecting Ticketmaster now- I guess we did go to American Idol tour as a pre-anniversary celebration (we went to the concert the week of our wedding last year) but that was a full month before our anniversary so I keep forgetting about it.
@fishbone: my husband goes to baseball games pretty frequently but doesn’t seem to enjoy them, or maybe just doesn’t express excitement to me since I know nothing about sports. I’m planning on getting him hockey tickets (a box seat?) for Christmas.
Event tickets may just be the way to go!

@missrobots: Love it!!! I’m tempted to get the pirate ship since I *think* (hope? pray??) that he is taking me to the Science Museum to see the Pirates exhibit (I have managed to make us sound like 80 year old nerds in this post…yikes) but if he doesn’t it might be kind of an awkward gift. I could always save it for sometime after we see the exhibit though…
