jpbee :  Since the 1 wedding anniversary is the paper anniversary Darling Husband and I handmade cards as a gift. They were so sweet! We also took a mini vacation to a nearby music festival. I packed a whole suitcase and cooler with  fancy cheese, crackers, jams, cocktail ingredients and all the appropriate hard ware. The marble cheese boards and such. We had a blast.

It was perfect. Just low key and us alone

Whatever you do I suggest going a bit big. Pull out the crystal glasses, table linens and candles. If watching tv, make a psllet on the floor to curl up togerher. Extra touches will make even a day at home special.

jpbee :  we were in Italy for 10 nights just prior, and then on the day itself my husband surprised me with a one night stay on the Sunborn Yacht hotel, in London. We had dinner followed by cocktails, and it was lovely.

This year we fly back from Portugal on the day itself, so will likely go for lunch or dinner the following day and exchange cards and gifts then.

We still have seven months until our first anniversary but we have an idea of what we’re doing and I’ve started his gift. He suggested we take the Monday off (our actual anniversary) and we go away for the weekend to where we went when we got engaged. We might take the Tuesday too because then we can celebrate on the Monday night (if not we’ll have a glass of champagne on the Sunday night).

Gifts wise – I’m doing him a little book filled with one thing he’s done every day that made me love him. He knows about it because I’m rubbish at secret keeping but he doesn’t peek (but does remind me sometimes because I shouldn’t have picked something that I had to remember to do every day). I bought this tiny notepad, it’s probably not even three inches tall and on the front it has some wording, something about small things leading to big things. He was hoping to get me a story board of how we met and fell in love but he can’t draw and wants to make his present like I’m making his. Evidently, he’s also rubbish at secret keeping. Etsy has loads of ideas for paper anniversary gifts.

We sound really pathetic that we have this much planned out and still have seven months to go…

Aw I am sorry to hear they are closed Monday nights! That was such a great idea. You’ll have to do that for your 2nd anniversary.

Since it is Monday, maybe you could make it a mini vacation with your 3 day weekend. Go stay in a hotel in a nearby city and order room service, or stay in a little cabin by a lake. Then come home and have a nice dinner at your favorite restaurant?

Darling Husband is a teacher so our intention was to get married in the summer so that we can always celebrate our anniversary with a cool vacation. We are thinking we will keep it as cheap as possible and plan a week long roadtrip.

Our 1st anniversary was on a Sunday. Saturday we went to the same hotel where we got married, we had a lovely meal, a few drinks, and we spent the nigth there. On Sunday we went to my parents – Darling Husband parents live abroad – and we treated them to a meal in a restaurant near their house.

He got me a half anniversary band (white sapphire). I got him a card and scratch cards and he got lucky and won 1000 € !!! 🙂

Our first anniversary is on a Sunday (in about 2 months) so we are going away for the weekend to Niagara Falls. I booked a really nice hotel room, with a whirlpool tub and we’ll do some sightseeing, go to the casino and have a nice dinner. We have a 6 month old daughter so our anniversary was a great excuse to have my mom babysit for a night and Darling Husband and I to have some quality alone time 🙂 in really looking forward to it!

Congratulations on your first year! Our anniversary is also on a Monday. We are going to a B&B out in New Husband. I’m also scrap booking our first year together (as it is paper) and getting him a new cologne. Let us know what you come up with!

We had a low key first anniversary as we’d just bought and moved into our new house and olive grove the month before. I bought Darling Husband a gift voucher for a native plant nursery close to our home.  He bought me flowers.  We had lunch at a local winery (so close we think we share a property boundary!), had a drink with my parents who had made us an album of our wedding photos with scraps of lace from my dress etc and a gorgeous wooden memory chest my dad built.

Back home, i cooked us a nice meal and we shared a bottle of wine.

It was perfect.

Our 1st Anniversary fell on the same day as a college alum football home game, which my parents have season tickets to, and we go with them (DH and I both went there, but we didn’t meet until YEARS later). So, we did the usual tailgating with friends/family before the game and then just went out to eat with my SIL/hubby afterwards.

The next day (a Sunday), we went down to Minneapolis for a Vikings football game, as that was our present to ourselves. Darling Husband LOVES the Vikings, and it’s only a 3.5 drive. So, to use “paper” in the gift, it was our tickets! We stayed at a nice hotel, thanks for my sisters hotel discount, and just went to random bars/restaurants after the game downtown. My sister surprised us with a cake from a local bakery, too.

I also bought a print that had the lyrics to our first song, which is up in our room.

jpbee :  We were planning to do the same only to find out they didn’t do brunch on Sunday’s anymore 🙁

So we actually went to an upscale bowling alley in the city and went to this incredible steakhouse for dinner where I consumed the greatest glass of red wine on this planet lol. I also wore my wedding shoes which was fun. Then we went home and cut into the top teir of our wedding cake that we had saved (and yes, it was just as good as it had been the previous year). We plan to do the same for every anniversary for as long as we can, except check out a new bar or cool place prior to dinner. And we still have our cake in the freezer too! We plan to have a bite every year until it goes bad.

Ours is coming up soon and we booked the sweetest little cabin in the Catskills with a deck that backs up to a pretty stream. So we’ll have an outdoorsy weekend of hiking and then that Monday, the actual day, I guess Ill just make him a nice dinner at home and we’ll exchange gifts. He cant take the day off unfortunately.
