I called my regular OBGYN the day I found out I was pregnant and they don’t even schedule the first appointment until 10 weeks. I happen to be leaving the country at the ten week mark so I get to go in around week 9, but I still think that’s normal. From what I’ve read, the first appointment is more of a health history screening of you and the father and only sometimes an ultrasound. Personally, I’d rather stick with one OBGYN for everything – but you should do what you feel most comfortable with.

My Dr said they don’t typically see women until 8-10 weeks so I’d say you’re fine.  I’ll be seen just shy of 9 weeks.

hopefloats:  Thats pretty normal. I actually didnt have my first real appt until I was almost 15w!!! I didnt have a family doctor so I just went to a walk in clinic. They confirmed the pregnancy at around 4-5w and gave me an ultrasound form to do a dating screen when I was about 8w (since nothing really shows up until then). In the mean time I had found a maternity clinic but they were booking into the next month and I said “well I’m gonna be like 15w when I finally get in, is that ok? is there a reason for me to come in sooner?” She said nope…all the initial appt is, is a huge list of questions and they check if theres a HB with the doppler (every other appt is the same) I didnt even have a pap done or any physical checks because Ive had regular paps all normal for the last several years. If everything is going well and there’s no cramping or bleeding…. all your appts are basically just going in for like 10 minutes… they ask you how your doing, if you have any concerns, check your blood pressure, HB thats it!

The only thing she said is if I was wanting to get the NT scan done (which HAS to be during certain weeks) to just pop into the walk in and get the form (which I did) and then any testing/results could be sent to their office.

hopefloats:  That sounds pretty normal! I went in for a confirmation appt at 4 weeks (which was really just POAS’ing again), and they lined up my next appt for when I’m 12 weeks.  Seems like a long wait, but sounds pretty normal for everyone.

hopefloats:  I had my first appointment at 11.5 weeks, with a midwife. We heard the heartbeat with the Doppler and it was awesome. Good luck, I think 10 weeks sounds about right!
