So I’m looking for opinions. I have a six year old girl and a seven week old girl. My first had colic (later learned it was caused by acid reflux). After my first I decided not to have any more kids because it was so hard. My six year old is an angel now and looking back those first four or so months were WELL worth having the darling I have now. So after years of reluctancy I changed my mind and wanted another and here she is!
But the differences in her and her older sister are extreme. I’m used to babies only sleeping ib my arms, constant screaming and not being able to comfort her, consrantly covered in spit up and running on two hours a night of sleep every night.
With my seven week old I feel like a brand new mom constantly checking to make sure she Is breathing because she sleeps SO much and is so quiet and mellow. From day one, no exaggeration, she has known days vs nights. During the day she will stay awake for short stretches but at night she only wakes to eat and falls back to sleep before finishing her bottle. By week six she would fall asleep at her 9 feeding then get up at 1 to eat and not again till five or six which made things much easier. She started getting hungry sooner than normal so we fed her until she refused the bottle strting three days ago. First day she only took in 6oz a feeding but two days later and she is eating 7-8. But her time in between feedings are now four hours durIng the day. Last night she ate 8oz at 9pm. Fell asleep at 10pm and I was up all night checking on her and even trying to stir her to wake up but she didn’t wake up until 5am, going eight hours between a feeding and seven hours of solid sleep at just seven weeks. She ate seven ounces at five and fell back to sleep until 8:45. She ate another 6 ounces at 9 falling back to sleep at 9:30. She’s been catnapping the last 2.5 hours and by noon (its four minutes till ) she has only been awake for maybe three hours (including feeding time) in the last 12 hours.
I don’t know if this much sleep is normal especially when conparing to my first. I mean she wakes up and is responsive, smiles and cooes for 20 minutes and then just wants to go back to sleep or eat then sleep.
Am I just that lucky with a baby who sleeps a lot or should I be concerned? Should I be waking her up to eat still or just let her sleep until she wakes up?
