(Closed) First Cousins with the Same Name?

I would say use the name even if you did see them often. It means a lot to you and they will have different last names.

Old school Italian family here so I have (no exaggeration) 3 cousins named Liberato and 5 named Antonio.  Many have the same last name. We hardly ever see most of them so it’s never been an issue.

I’d definitely use the name in your case since (1) you aren’t close/don’t see each other often, (2) kids will have different last names and (3) most importantly, it has sentimental reasoning behind it for you.

Honestly, as your SIL, if I cared about my kid possibly having the same name as his cousin, I wouldn’t pick my SIL’s late father’s name before clearing it with you/my brother first.

Honour your father. My dad passed away when I was a teenager as well and his name is my number one boy’s name. Nothing will change that.

baletrina:  I have about 30 first cousins (my mom is one of 9 :o) and many many second cousins. There are SO many double names. Its no big deal in my family. :o)

I don’t think it’s a big deal, even if they did see each other often/attended tons of family events. Use the name you want.
