Hi everyone… so i was listening to this song and i felt a bit of a twinge…and then i downloaded the lyrics and my heart melted. I love the idea of having this as a first dance for us…. BUT do you guys think its a little too fast for a first dance?

Seems like a good song, and nice because it’s not so common as a 1st dance song. Great idea!

This is mine and FI’s “song”. While we’re not using it in our wedding, we listen to it all the time and sing it to each other like we’re crazy. 🙂

We recently decided to have as this as our first dance song too. Wanted to have something that was released the year we are married so it is the same ‘vintage’ as our wedding and just really love the sentiment behind it. Also didn’t want something too slow to make it easier to avoid the ‘high school sway’ when dancing!

- Wedding: September 2014 - Manhattan Church Rec Center
We are going to make that the Couple’s dance song with the longest lasting couple finishing the song
So when the couple who has been together for over 50 years (FI’s grandparents) are left dancing it will be at the part
“You are, You are the love of my life. You are, You are the love of my life,” it will be just them on the floor

To me that song is about realizing you are with a great person after breaking up with them.
“I’ll tell you, baby, it was easy
Comin’ back here to you once I figured it out”
It’s not the sentiment I would want as a first dance, but that is just my very humble opinion.
Also: “‘Cause I don’t wanna lose you now” “So now I say goodbye to the old me, it’s already gone”

@zonabee: If you watch the video, it is actually after he has died. It is a couple in old age and flashes back to when they were younger some during the video. JT said he wrote it for (or about) his grandparents.

I am in no way trying to come across as rude here, but if I was at a wedding & that song came on for the first dance, I would probably laugh. It reminds me of having your first dance to a backstreet boys song or something (very boy bandish sounding). And it’s not that I don’t like the song, because I do. I just don’t find it appropriate for that special moment (although, I’m not you, so please take my opinion with a grain of salt).
If it’s any consolation, the song I am walking down the aisle to is about a long lost love & how she would come back to her love if he asked her too. Not necessarily the message you expect out of a wedding march song.

I loooooove that song BUT it’s about a couple who has broken up, JT realized he made a mistake after she was gone, and is desperately trying to get his girl back.. It doesn’t really for a first dance song for a wedding; it’s actually a little sad.

I have no idea why people think this song is about a breakup. JT wrote it for his grandparents to symolize their relationship…full of ups and downs but their strong bond that was resiliant through the years…
“Now its as clear as this promise that were making, 2 reflections into”
I may be dim but i definately did not read anythign about breakups or lost love from this song…

Annnddd now I’m going to spend all night trying to convince Fiance that it should be our first dance song. I LOVE JT, but have never actually listened to the lyrics of that song.
FWIW, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having a boyband-esque song as a first dance song. JT’s music/style is a lot more mature now. Plus, he no longer has that ugly brillo hair and denim suit (I hope).
I mean, Colbie Callet’s “Bubbly” was a popular first dance song for a while and that’s about an orgasm, sooo…..
