I’m watching the French version of the TV show where the 4 brides judge each other’s weddings for a week and the winner gets a free honeymoon.
For about the 100th time, the couple have chosen Adele “Someone Like You” as their first dance song – this is a song about misery and heartbreak and not at all appropriate for a wedding IMO! The French, ok have a language barrier to contend with and some pretty rubbish modern music, but wouldn’t you try to translate or something to make sure it worked??
Question to the hive – would you have a song that you liked the sound of in a foreign language, even if you didn’t have a clue what they were singing about?
And will/did you choose your first dance song on special meaning for your couple, or just a weddingy type song?

Heck no! The meaning is important!
We chose our song because it had meaning to us, and it was romantic.

Fiance and I have had our first dance song picked out for a long time – it’s a song we both love and we love the lyrics/meaning. It probably isn’t a song most of our guests will have heard before (I can already hear my mom telling me she doesn’t like it), but we don’t care.

@LaPetiote: I love “Mine Would Be You” by Blake Shelton but I’d never choose it because at the end of the song it turns sad and you learn the couple broke up. When I first heard it I was like WOW perfect wedding song, until the end, then I was like uhh I’d rather not have a song about breaking up. We have an idea for a song because it’s meaningful and the lyrics are really nice and “weddingy” (good word inventiaon haha).

We danced to “Blues Man,” by Alan Jackson because that’s our song. DH played it for me early on in our relationship because he felt like it told our story. It could be considered a little bit of a downer, because in the song the man is in a really low place before he meets the woman who “saves” him. Some people might have thought it depressing but I wouldn’t have danced with DH to anything else.

We chose a song that we liked that was appropriately weddingy and now it’s special to us because it’s the song we danced to at our wedding. Best of both worlds. 😉

I picked the First Dance song a year ago and made Fiance agree. LOL. He had never heard it before, but started listening to it regularly. Last month we were in England visiting for the weekend and stopped by the local pub. They were having a disco and my Fiance surprised me by requesting the song. We slow danced in front of the whole pub to that song. It was so romantic!!!!!

That’s what we did too. We didn’t really have our own special song so we picked Percy Sledge “When a man loves a woman” – It’s now our song as it’s the one we danced to at our wedding. We took a taxi to the airport to leave on our honeymoon at 5am and it was playing on the radio, it was meant to be!

@LaPetiote: We had no idea what our First Dance sing would be. Neither of us thought that there was a song that was special to us as a couple. Then, about a week and a half ago. His daughter started playing Usher “There Goes My Baby” on her Kindle. We were both like “That’s it!” The song came out when we first started dating. He used to have it has his ringtone when I called him.

We still haven’t picked our song but it will definitely be something that has meaning to us. At first I wanted a song that I’d always wanted to be my first dance song, but it’s not a song that Fiance even likes so I had to throw it out the window. If I know us, it will be a cheesy 80’s song, or maybe something from the 50’s.

Oh gosh. Adele’s song is pretty but yes it’s all about heartbreak. Our song is definitely something meaningful to both of us.

I thought about going with this brazillian song that he sang to me when we first met. It’s about a girl who is walking down the beach, but she is sad. The singer thinks she is soooo beautiful and thinks a beautiful girl like that should always smile. I will probably let him pick the song though. Figured I should let him pick something. lol

A friend of mine is using 2 songs from Portal for their wedding. One is in Itallian, the other one is instramental only. Both of the originals are… not wedding appropriate in lyrics, but the songs have so much meaning to the couple, they are using them anyway. To be honest, only one person at the wedding will speak Italian, and they are being cheeky with the second, and hope their friends will sing the lyrics as the song plays. I think it’s cool for them, as their wedding theme is Geek

OUrs was in latin and italian! Love Thee Dearest by Celtic Thunder. But, the first part is in English and its talking about love forever. I just assumed the rest was saying the same thing in the other languages, I never actually checked. Hopefully it wasn’t somehthing else!
