My SO and I first heard Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran when his album first came out last year we immediately knew that we wanted that song to be our first dance song. We didn’t tell anyone that we wanted that song because technically not engaged (even though we are planning to get married June or July 2016). Over the past few months the song has become really popular and now many couples are choosing that song as their first dance song.
One of our couple friends is getting married this summer and the bride mentioned to me that they chose Thinking Out Loud for their first dance so now SO and I are looking for a new song for our wedding because we don’t want to “copy” them. They are pretty close friends of ours and we are both in the wedding party so we’ve decided we really don’t want to use that song anymore even though we love it.
Any suggestions? Please include a youtube link if possible 🙂
alexabee: have you heard “The One” by Kodaline? I absolutely love this song, and so does my boyfriend. I don’t think it’s mainstream yet which could work out for you! An acoustic version would be beautiful! Sorry no link, youtube is blocked at my office.
Same thing happened to us! My Maid/Matron of Honor who is getting married next year mentioned in passing that they picked “Thinking Out Loud” as their first dance song. Even though, my wedding (just occurred this April) is more than a year before hers, I just didn’t want to have the same song and frankly it wasn’t a big deal for us to search for another.
This isn’t close to Ed Sheeran’s style but wanted to share anyways – we picked Ellie Goulding’s “How Long Will I Love You” and did the extended version (~4 min).
