I would keep it! What is the song?

Keep your original choice. No question. Your fiancé is right, as soon as you dance your first dance that will become the strongest association you have with the song. Besides, unless you use an original composition, good luck finding a song that hasn’t been used at other weddings! You could switch choices only to have your 2nd pick end up being the first dance song at another one of the weddings you’re attending this year!

What is the song??

Keep it unless it’s that ‘Thinking Out Loud’ song by Ed Sheeran.

No offence but the last 3 weddings we’ve attended played that song. SMH

Actually come to think of it all of those wedddings were so similar (dress and decor near on identical!)

Be individuals please

I don’t see anything wrong with keeping the original choice. It makes sense that the people you’re close with would have similar tastes to you, in everything from decor to music, so it wouldn’t surprise me if there is some crossover between weddings.

I’m one of the first to get married in my group of friends (one got married 4 or 5 years ago, another got married back in January and another had a destination wedding in July that none of our friends were able to attend) so there really isn’t much crossover between us. But as more of the girls get married, I’m sure I’ll start to see similar or even the same things cropping up every now and then. It wouldn’t bother me if someone used the same song as ours, I’d still remember it as our first dance song.

Of course I’m going to say keep it if it means a lot to you two, don’t let the fact that others have used it make you change it. Personally if it were me, I would change it, but that’s just me. I would change it because I would want something unique to my fiance and I, but that’s not easy task. We aren’t really attached to our first dance song maybe that is why it wouldn’t be such a big deal for me to change it. I wouldn’t care if others after us used the same song as us but I guess maybe the fact that I had already heard it at 2 weddings would make it old for me.

thosethreewords :  Oh I love that Christina Perri song! My bridesmaids are walking down the aisle to the Piano Guys version. Agreed that having your band play it live will make it different – so much more beautiful in my opinion.

DH and I chose “The One” by Kodaline and on listening to it I was like “I love this, but I’m sure SO many other couples have used it” as it is so so wedding-y (I think the lead singer actually wrote it for his wife as a wedding present). Anyway, we went ahead with it because I knew that a. it would be special to us b. I’m not very sentimental so it was more about the song triggering happy memories then it becoming ‘our song’.

Turns out practically nobody uses it or has heard of it (our DJ didn’t even have it, he had to buy it, and he is one of the most popular wedding DJ’s in the region). So I turned out being wrong about it’s popularity, but I would have gone ahead with it even if it was popular because it’s not super mainstream (I was more against having a song I’d hear all the time on the radio since I didn’t want it to lose specialness by over-hearing it).

Certain songs are popular for things like this because they are beautiful and well suited to it! I doubt anyone else will remember that it was played at other weddings. Do you remember the songs played at the other weddings besides this song? Each couple is different so the feeling will always be different.

TravelingBride31 :  I walked down the aisle to that song!!! You (and the OP ) are the first people to actually know Kodaline’s The One and use it at a wedding that I’ve heard. Our DJ had to look it up and friends asked me what that song was?  I’m a regular Sirius XM “the Pulse” listener and that’s where I first heard it. It was actually on this week as I was commuting to work.

As for the OP, we purposely knocked out “all of me” by john legend from our list as friends has just used it at their wedding a few months prior. We played it at our wedding, just didn’t use it as our song. MY Dj said to pick what we wanted and don’t care if we use someone else’s song as long as it wasn’t Ed Sheeran. We were the first couple in a long run of weddings he did that did not use that as the first dance.   We used “I choose you” by Sara Bareilles as our official first dance as I’ve been a fan of hers for a long time.  That was my choice…but my husband loves the Foo Fighters, so we also had a special dance to the acoustic version “Everlong”.

Why don’t you go ahead and use “your song”?
