So my fiance and I are trying to decide which song to make our first dance song, btu we have completely different tastes in music. I love country music and want to dance to “God Gave Me You” by Blake Shelton or “Crazy Girl” by Eli Young Band. He wants to dance to “Warmness on the Soul” by AVENGED SEVENFOLD!! I do like the song he picked, but I don’t really want to dance to avenged sevenfold at my wedding…I feel like they’re a bit too hardcore rock for a wedding. I don’t want to make him dance to a song he hate (he hates country music fyi), but I really don’t like the thought of people asking me who sings the song I’m dancing to and I say “Avenged Sevenfold”. I just feel like it’s kind of a weird band to dance to at my wedding. Any suggestions for what I should do?

@CardsBride13: I wouldn’t worry too much about the name of the band; it’s more about whether or not the song itself is something you like! My sister and her husband made a fairly unconventional choice, but they thought it was right for them, and nobody was about to walk up to them and say “wow, what an odd choice for a first dance. What’s the matter with you?!?”
Darling Husband and I also had a hell of a time picking a first dance song. Originally I was going for something really sappy, but he kept vetoing everything I chose … then I went in a different direction and picked something up-tempo but he vetoed that too because it would be too hard to dance to. The compromise? “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” by Frankie Valli. Absolutely ridiculous song that always made us laugh, and the first dance ended up being a whole hell of a lot of fun (everyone was cheering!). So that’s what I would suggest — if you don’t want the Avenged Sevenfol,d song and your FI doesn’t want country, try going in a completely different direction, towards something neither one of you would have picked in a million years but as soon as you find it you know it’s the right thing!
