The title says it all.
I’ve been with this company for 5 years. We’ve weathered some pretty tough times, and we’ve all known the company has been on the verge of closure for several months now. I’m lucky in that I can utilize unemployment benefits until I can land something, and I have until Christmas.. but still. Just.so.bummed. We got married two weeks ago today & it’s just such a pitfall after feeling so darn HAPPY!
Having a little pity party tonight bees.. just need a boost of confidence to pick myself up a bit I guess.. what a blow. Times are tight in my field right now as well.. it’s hard to find work this time of year in my industry. I am right about to start my second year back to school (already have a degree, but I started an online course on the side while working full time to pay the bills) that was supposed to drive me toward a change in career direction, now I’m not sure how I’ll fund the second year of my diploma program. let alone pay our mortgage & bills. le sigh.
Anyone have any advice on not letting a layoff get the best of you? Thanks everyone 🙂

I’m sorry 🙁 That’s super brutal.
I don’t have any good advice other than to just start the job search, and that in itself it pretty depressing.

Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear this. In trying to put a positive spin on this, it happened after the wedding and you were able to enjoy your (hopefully paid vacation) together as husband and wife. I know you have unemployment benefits until Christmas, but start looking now. Contact any recruiters/headhunters you know of and revamp your resume, start/update your Linked In profile and dive in. I would also contact the school and see what their policy is on deferring enrollment just in case you need to push your program out a semester. /hugs You can do this!

thanks bees.. luckily I sensed something was coming down the tubes and updated my resume before we left for the wedding. Almost all of the wedding we had managed to save and pay off beforehand, so that’s good too. Started sending out the feelers today to my networks…still, think it might be a long search, however. Send lots of good vibes my way, please!! 🙂
