As some of you may know, I have been planning on using baby’s breath for my centerpieces for quite some time. I was worried how to obtain the look I was going for, but after fiddling around tonight I think I came up with something.
The first picture is the look I was trying to achieve, and the second is what I came up with! Let me know what you guys think!

This is just a quick job, but I will be able to get the poof more even, as I didn’t cut the stems at equal lengths.

I like it! I have the same question; is that a candle holder? If so, where did you find them?

yep, it’s a candle holder. my baby’s breath is not as dense as the photo, but I can’t afford to buy that many baby’s breath bunches! the one prototype alone is 32 stems!

I got the candle holder from ikea. it was $15. I have to find something else, though. because it’s not tall enough. when you sit at the table, the poof of baby’s breath is right in your face which is not good.

@heatherrobyn: Looks awesome! Do you have any friends who are interior designers or decorators? I accidentally discovered that since I have my own design company I also have access to wholesale flower shops since I have a business number and can make the case for needing decor pieces (vases, etc) as well as the occasional bunch of flowers for clients ๐ I got my baby’s breath from a wholesale shop for REALLY cheap (big big big bunches for $6). So if you have even a friend of a friend you can beg a favour from, definitely investigate that route!! It saved me a ton of money!

@bakerella: I got my baby’s breath at Safeway (a grocery store near me) for $3.99 a bunch. However, there was only 8 or 9 stems in each bunch.
All of the wholesale websites (like fiftyflowers) sell each bunch for almost $10. That is so confusing to me–how could the grocery store be less than half the cost?
The wholesale florist in seattle had similar prices to fiftyflowers. Do you have any tips? What kind of place was the shop you got your baby’s breath?

It could be that their bunches have more stems or are a higher quality. Grocery store flowers aren’t necessarily the cream of the crop.
Or… they’re a rip off. You’d have to investigate a little more probably ๐
