I couldn’t stop smiling and looking in the mirror, and my mom and BFF/MOH teared up a bit. It was just so me!

@somersetdarling:  Coming to terms with your body being what it is instead of what you want it to be is actually an excellent catalyst to improvement. I accepted long ago that I’ll never be thin, but I eat healthily and exercise so my extra weight doesn’t both me as much as it used to. When I tried on dresses, only one sample dress actually zipped up all the way. But because I unashamedly strutted my stuff in the store and went in knowing what looks good on the body I have and not the body I wished I had, I was able to make the best possible decision.

@somersetdarling:  those dresses are fun, and i’m glad your first experience was not bad.  i knew my dress was “the one” after i couldn’t stop thinking about it!  i tried on dozens of dresses just to be sure, since it’s such a big purchase, but then i kept thinking about that one dress!  i almost didn’t try it on because it thought it was too silly, but then i did and i just felt gorgeous in it.  good luck and keep us posted!

@somersetdarling:  I tried on around 6 dresses and liked 5 of them. I didn’t have that emotional moment – I just picked the one I felt flattered me the most and was most comfortable.

That said, its gorgeous and I can’t wait to wear it! But no crying, no “this is the one” feeling. For me, it just felt like choosing another item of clothing (albeit a very important one).

The first time I tried on my dress, I didn’t cry (my mom did), but I knew I loved it.  I tried on a bunch of other dresses, but every shop I went to that had my dress, I tried it on again.  I knew it was the one when we were getting ready to purchase a different dress (that I loved as well), and I stopped my mom, let her know I needed to put the first one back on to make sure.  At that point, I knew it was my dress.

@somersetdarling:  My dress was the 3rd one I tried on in David’s.  I was ready to stop there!  I went to my other appointment elsewhere that day, but ended up going back to DB that night to place my order.

When I put it on the first time, I had to fight back tears.  I didn’t want the consultant to see me cry b/c I didn’t want to get pressured!!  But my mom and Future Mother-In-Law both cried as well!  It was amazing!  Definitely had that Ah-ha! moment.

I like both! Think I like the skirt best on the first dress but just love the little sleeves on the second 🙂

As an aside, I grew up in Somerset! In a lovely little village called North Curry, just outside Taunton. Will you be getting married locally? Have you picked a venue?

I never cried, nor did I feel “that thing” but I loved the dress. I didn’t buy it and was considering buying another but I kept thinking about the first one and stalking the internet for pics of it so I decided that mean it was the one

@alysee:  Same here.  I tried the dress on, liked it, took it off and tried on a couple others before deciding I wanted to try it on again.  The 2nd time I just didn’t want to take it off.  And then with the headband and the veil I realized that was my dress.  I didn’t cry.  I didn’t have an ‘ah-ha!’ moment.  I just didn’t want to take it off.  And it is NOTHING that I thought I wanted.

I’m sure if I kept looking and trying I could feel that way about other dresses.  So I’m done.  I was the same way with the ring.  I have other things to research and plan.  🙂

@somersetdarling:  I went to Richard Huish! Small world indeed :-). A New York wedding sounds wonderful, very exciting! We’re getting married in Mauritius, so also not local. All my family are in Somerset and his are all in Manchester – we just couldn’t choose between the two, so opted for far away and just us instead! Before I moved away I had a soft spot for Hestercombe Gardens as a potential venue.

Keep us posted on your dress search. I love that length on you and am definitely excited to see what you end up choosing xx

@somersetdarling:  Oh fantastic! I’d been wondering what Davids Bridal was like.

Out of interest, what sort of prices were the tea dresses?
