- Wedding: August 2012
I guess I should start by explaining my situation a bit. I am getting married next August. My Husband to be has two children from a previous marriage, a daughter who is 11 and a boy who is 6. I do not have any children of my own. This has not been the easiest road for me, and the ex-wife/mommy has made these last 5 years as hard on me as she can. I have a wonderful relationship with his children, and I love them like they are my own.
I wanted to do something special to get the kiddo’s invoved in both the ceremony and the reception. They are both going to be in the bridal party, and as a surprise, I am going to exchange vows with them, and give them both presents (a ring for her, a pocket watch for him) before their Daddy and I exchange our vows.
At the reception, after our First Dance, I wanted to have a First Family Dance. I have spent hours and hours trying to find the perfect song for this. I know a lot of people wouldn’t stress that much about it, but this is VERY important to me, to show them that we are a family now – that it’s not just their dad I am making a commitment to. I have seen countless threads on here with suggestions of songs and none of them seem to fit our situation. I don’t have any kids. Their mother is still in the picture. They are still little, and I don’t think I could keep their attention for an actual slow song. I was starting to get worried.
Then I found it. I hit the mother load. I found the perfect song (I think) for our situation. And my kids KNOW this song. WHY, WHY didn’t I think of this before?!?! It’s called “Welcome” by Phil Collins – but all your moms/stepmoms will know it from the Disney Movie, Brother Bear.
I can just see them dancing, and singing along. I think this might just be perfect! Please, listen to it, and tell me what you think?
There’s nothing complicated about the way we live We’re all here for each other, happy to give Proud of who we are, humble beneath the stars We’ve everything we need, the moon and sun Ooh there is more than enough for everyone All we have, we share, and all of us, we care
So come on, welcome to our family time Welcome to our brotherly time We’re happy giving and taking To the friends we’re making There’s nothing we won’t do Welcome to our family time Welcome to our happy-to-be time This is our festival you know And best of all we’re here to share it all
There’s a bond between us nobody can explain It’s a celebration of life and seeing friends again I’d be there for you, I know you’d be there for me too
So come on, welcome to our family time Welcome to our brotherly time
This is our festival you know And best of all we’re here to share it all
Remembering love once departed Someone dear to your heart Finding love, planning a future Tell stories and laughing with friends Precious moments you’ll never forget
This has to be the most beautiful, most peaceful place I’ve ever been to It’s nothing like I’ve ever seen before When I think how far I’ve come I can’t believe it, and yet I see it And then I see family, I see the way we used to be
Come on, welcome to our family time Welcome to our brotherly time We’re happy giving and taking To the friends we’re making There’s nothing we won’t do Welcome to our happy-to-be time This is our festival you know And best of all we’re here to share it We’re here to share it all
