I had my first fitting yesterday and there were two problems: the dress was ordered in the wrong size and is at least a size too small (I was apparently measured by an intern who didn’t know how to measure — awesome) and was also incredibly wrinkled. It basically looked like someone had shoved it in a bag because it was completely wrinkled from the waist to the bottom of the train. The woman at the shop was very nice and apologetic and told me to contact the seamstress and see if my dress (La Sposa Fresa) could be let out a size or more. She also assured me that all of the wrinkles could come out without a problem.
I just emailed the seamstress to see if this dress can be easily let out a size or more, but I’m wondering if I should just insist that the shop order the dress for me in the next size up. I’m also wondering if I should insist that the next dress be shipped differently somehow (?) to minimize wrinkling. The dress fabric is man-made roman organza. What would you do? Thanks for the advice!
Pic is of me in the sample dress — didn’t take any pictures of me in the too small/totally wrinkled dress because it was too sad. 🙁

@radical4peace: First off, your gown is gorgeous! You are going to look amazing on your big day! Depending on how snug your gown is, I would consider reordering. It looks like you won’t be marrying for a while, so you don’t have to worry about timelines. Your seamstress will steam your gown and magically the wrinkles will all disappear! So, don’t stress about how it is packaged. Good Luck!

I think they should order the dress in the correct size. You shouldn’t have to pay to have it altered to fit you because they measured you wrong in the first place. I’m not sure if I would say anything about the wrinkles, you will have to steam and press your dress before you wear it after having a seamstress touching it anyway.

Call the shop and let them know that since they caused the error they should reorder you the gown in your proper size. I had similar problems when my dress came in except it was the manufacturer’s issue. But my issues were completely resolved by the store. You shouldn’t have to settle after spending all that money buying a dress. And it’s hard to let a dress out and that shouldn’t be your problem to deal with.
Also your dress is beautiful and will look amazing on you at your wedding.

I would definitely make them re-do your order. It’s really pretty on you, though. I absolutely love the top!

I’m also going to chime in with, ask the store to order the correct size. Especially since it was a mistake they made. You shouldn’t have to be the one to deal with their mistake. The wrinkles I’d worry less about, the dress will be steamed as part of the alterations and that will take care of the wrinkles.
The sample dress is lovely! 🙂

Thanks everyone for your advice and kind words about my dress! I actually tried on the sample dress again at the store yesterday to remind myself why I loved this dress and your compliments are also giving me confidence in my dress! I will see what the seamstress says but I think with time to order a new dress (wedding over a year away) I will probably insist on that.

The dress is beautiful! I would definitely insist on having it reordered – some of my bridesmaid dresses came in too small as a result of horrible measurement, and they kept refering me to alterations until I sort of flipped out.
