Is it important to have someone come to the first fitting with you?? My first fitting is tomorrow and my Maid/Matron of Honor backed out, one of my other bridesmaids is busy and the other two live a state away. I was just wondering if it is any help to have someone with me?

it’s just nice to have someone there. It’s the first time you are seeing your dress since you ordered it, and this time it SHOULD fit. 😉

If it’s possible to get someone to go with you that would be ideal. It’s just nice to have help getting into the dress and an extra pair of eyes to look the gown over and make sure everything looks good. However, I don’t think it’s a necessity so don’t stress over it if you have to go alone.

There is a great podcast about this exact question. The link is here: http://weddingpodcastnetwork.libsyn.com/index.php?post_id=183637
If I remember correctly, they recommend you go to your fitting alone so that the seamstress can concentrate and have room to work.

I don’t think there’s really a REASON for the other person to be there other than emotional support. Plus, having someone there would give you someone to talk to while you’re being pinned all over the place.
To answer you’re question, I don’t think it’s important to have someone there unless it’s important to you.

My alterations aren’t being done at the shop that I bought the dress at, so picking it up and the first fitting are separate for me. I had my mom there when I picked up the dress (though it didn’t really help because neither of us noticed a pretty big flaw in it, but theoretically we were more likely to notice things if there were too of us!). But, I won’t have anyone there for the first fitting with the alterationist, because I don’t think it would really help…
