@hanuk Good work! Stand up to the seamstress. I get very sick of throw away comments about things you can’t do or have to do. It’s the one day that you get to choose how it goes. Do what you want, and go with the flats!

Also I found it easier to walk in my dress once I had a hoop and the dress wasn’t around my feet!

Good luck!

That is a FANTASTIC dress! It’s so pretty, I love it! I’m sure all the hassle will be worth it!

Hanuk:  I am in love with your dress! It is very, very beautiful. I am also very glad that you found your voice too. Given everything you have told us about the store I would be taking it away right now to the other seamstress. I would not be giving any more of my business to a store who displays my dress rather than keeping it safety in its bag.

Hanuk:  First off, that dress is stunning!!!  I can see why you loved it to pick it in the first place!  I am in agreement with the other Bees, you need to go back in with your demands and if they claim they can’t work with you on it then definitely find a reputable seamstress in your area or check with friends and coworkers because there is someone out there who can get the dress hemmed and bustled for you! Good luck!

Everdeen about not going back to that store though. The seamstress whose card you took sounds like she knows what she’s talking about and I’m sure she’ll be able to alter your dress they way you want. That store though… they have no respect for private property, do they? I’m pissed on your account, they have no business displaying your dress (and letting other people try it on? just… no. ugh). Take your dress and run away from there!

I would definitely get a second opinion. I went for my first fitting at David’s Bridal and the alterations came to $500! That’s nearly 2/3 of the cost of the dress. So, after an hour and a half of being fitted, I told the woman that I was going to shop around and get quotes and she unpinned the entire thing and gave me my dress back. (All the money is due at the time of the fitting.) I was so frustrated and stressed, but I’m so glad that I shopped around because I found a woman who gave me a quote of $150. Soooo much better. Definitely shop around because I’m sure what you’re asking for is possible.

Makemeamrs:  agreed, I bought a dress with a tulle skirt, and the day I bought it they were showing me how they were going to do the bustle.

One of my close friends that I was a bridesmaid for wore Blue by Enzoani Dabra, which is a similar shape. Her’s was easy to bustle,  but the loops were easily hidden amongst the lace appliques on the skirt. With your dress it may be a challenge to hide the loops needed to bustle up all of those layers.  But it should be do-able!

As for the hemming,  my friend was told that it was cheaper and easier to hem a tulle skirt like that because the only layer that needs to be legit hemmed is the lining!  All of the tulle just needs to be cut because it is just a raw edge.

i am at David’s bridal and am in a tulle bottom with flats – no issue. Warning my alterations will probably be 600 at the end of the day. I think my last was 529
