We are planning on doing this because we don’t want a lot of time after the ceremony lost to photos when we could be enjoying our guests at cocktail hour.  I’m assuming there will be some photos after ceremony but we’re not dedicating an hour to them.  Our wedding is at 4pm, photos at 1pm.

We’ll be doing first look, because our ceremony doesn’t start till 5:30. And our reception starts at 7, so I don’t want to hold everyone up too long after the ceremony taking pics. Also it will be dark after the ceremony, so any outside pics will need to be taken earlier.

I did one and I loved it!

    I had many reasons:

    1. Photography was REALLY important to me and so I wanted lots of photography time without having a big gap between the ceremony and reception
    2. I wanted the first time that my groom and I to see each other to be private. Our photographers stayed at a bit of a distance and our wedding party and families were even further. So they could see us but not here us!
    3. I LOVE the pictures that come from first looks they are so sweet – you can check out mine here

We’re planning on doing this as well.

    • Our photog was EXPENSIVE and our splurge– we want to have amazing pictures and leave plenty of time to get them– no rushing- stress free day- I hope!
    • I like the intimacy of having a first look and us sharing that moment together
    • Get 2 different waves of emotion, one seeing each other privately and then another wave walking down the aisle
    • My Fiance is anxious sometimes and this will certainly calm his nerves
    • I can make sure Fiance looks put together hahahaha

I was initially 100% for it because its definitely more practical route time-wise and the safest route to get great pictures. But, my Fiance is totally against it. The only picture he has had in his head about getting married has been seeing his new wife for the FIRST time coming down the aisle. And when better than a wedding to be a little more emotional than practical right? 🙂

I was kind of nervous we wouldn’t get any good pictures but then I realized that our wedding day is about the WEDDING. It is not about the pictures. I want great pictures to capture our day… I don’t want our day to bend to the needs of getting photos. And I trust my photographer. We will have less time for posed photos but I just need to put my confidence in our photog to capture some great candid moments. And worst case scenario that we don’t have enough pics of us that we like? Well, we’ll get dressed up again and do some posed shots. A second chance to wear my dress? Hell yea!

We did it, and I’m SO glad.  The whole day goes by really quickly, so I’m happy I was able to spend the cocktail hour with friends/family rather than taking pictures.

This is something I have been debating for a few months.  In the end we are deciding against a first look.  Timewise it would be nice, but we want that anticipation of seeing each other the first time as I’m walking down the aisle.  No matter what you choose it will be a wonderful and amazing moment.  Go with what feels right for you and your groom. We’re doing it! I think that first look photos are always incredibly amazing and I really want that first moment to be private and personal. Plus, our wedding is at 5pm the day before Halloween, if we wait until after the ceremony to take pictures, there wont be any light left!

We’re doing one because we didn’t want a gap between ceremony and reception. Plus it gives us a lot better use of time for the whole day. 🙂

We have to do one! Jewish weddings have a ketubah signing ceremony before the regular public ceremony. Since we have to see each other for that anyways, I see no reason not get the pictures out of the way in the afternoon. Plus, the cocktail hour is my favorite part of any wedding and I don’t want to miss ours!

We’re doing it so we can enjoy cocktail hour with our guests instead of spending it taking pictures.

@pb and j:  We did a first look for this exact reason too.  It was great, we got our pictures out of the way early.  Then after the ceremony we had the traditional yichud and had about 20 minutes together just the two of us which would have been harder to pull off without a first look.

After that we had just our immediate family come join us for a special toast and got to spend a little time with them before joining everyone else for cocktail hour.

I highly recommend it, we were both so happy and relaxed going into our ceremony…
